Suffix line

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I did a search on this Forum and found almost nothing about Suffix line. Anyone have any feedback on Suffix? I picked up a spool to try out on one of the muskie reels, but am curious about it's performance in the lower diameters.

Feels a litle "smoother' than the Power Pro, and with some of the issues with P Pro this year I'm looking for alternatives.

Curious if anyone has thoughts.

Thanks

Chris

You must be talking about there new braided line? I have not used it but I have heard that it does not hold up as well as Power Pro, and that it almost immedietly turns white. Just kind of curious what kind of issues you have had with PP. I use it on 6 of my setups and have not had any problems. Let us know how you like the new Suffix.

Are you talking about Suffix Braid as REL suggested?

I have had some 20lb. test on a baitcaster for the last few weeks. I have thrown a lot of spinnerbaits and caught a lot of fish with it.

Very happy with it. I found it very similar to Power Pro in appearance and durability. I have noticed no color change.(fading)

A lot of lines cast great and are problem free when new. I like to use them for awhile before passing judgement.

Prior to using the Suffix, I had 20 lb. Fireline Crystal on the same reel. Excellent durability and trouble free. It's noisy though, if that is an issue for you.

For me, this is getting to be a Ford/Chevy/Dodge issue. It's just a matter of preference.

Right now, and I reserve the right to change my mind, I rank 20 lb test braid on my baitcaster:

#1 Fireline crystal

#2 Power Pro and Suffix Braid

That being said, I have buddies who swear by Spiderwire.

You just have to find a line that works for you on your equipment.

I would have no problem in buying and using any of them. A palomar knot works great with all braids I have used.

p.s. I have used lighter, 8#, 10#, Power Pro on my spinning reels for the past few years and am very happy with the performance and durability. I alway tip them with a flourocarbon leader unlike the 20lb on the baitcaster, which I tie direct to the lure.

I have Power Pro on all my rods but I gave the yellow suffix 20lb braid a try this year. In one week I had two bass that were around 14" break my line on the hook set. Both jumped after it broke so I know I didn't get bit off by a pike. Fading was another issue. Due to the tighter weave in the line I thought it felt a lot more stiff and kind of like plastic. I gave it an honest try but in order for me to switch from Power Pro it had to out perform PP and it didn't do that for me. I may have just gotten a bad batch of line but I expected more out of the Suffix.

Thanks guys,

Yes, I was referring to the braided product. I spooled up a muskie reel and a bass reel (Curado) last night, I'll see how the stuff does in a light and heavy diameter.

P Pro issues I was referring to were from some batches they had earlier in the year that had some flaws on/in the line. Don't get me wrong, I love the stuff but I dont' want to be one dimensional and never try anything else.

Thanks

Chris

From what I have seen thus far is that there are much fewer quality issues in the line. I have found quite a bit of braid variation in the other brands of braided line. I have NEVER been broken off due to nicks/small cuts. The line is very consistent throughout the entire spool. The only thing that is annoying about the line is that it fades a little quicker than the other brands. Aside from that, it has been great.

Since switching I've been catching 8 to 10 pound bass with regularity! wink.gif

Seriously, it's performed well for me this fall, both the bass and muskie set ups. I like it alot, and even in cold water it held the spool well and was cooperative.

I tried suffix on 3 of my rods after my wife saw larry dahlberg use it on his fishing show. I tried two tests 20 and 6or8. I hated the stuff. did all my fishing on a lake w/no weeds and a rock bottem. lost about 10 lures using the stuff. The biggest problem was w/castoffs. the line was not breaking due to the knot either as i went and retrieved 3 of my lures. I'll admit I only used the stuff for two weeks but it failed way too many times for me in such a short period. That and fireline I don't think I have ever broken unintentionally.

I have been using Suffix Elite for the past 2 years and Suffix Performance Braid this season. I have never had problems with fish breaking off. To be honest, I use 6lb Elite and never broke a fish off while during practice or a tournament. Elite is durable and I trust it on all my reels. I haven't experienced any of the fading some of you are talking about, I've been using the green Performace Braid.

The reason I switched to Suffix was because I wasn't having much success with the Stren's and Berkley lines, so I did a month of researching line companies. I came across the Suffix HSOforum and it turned me on instantly. Before they even came out with there own brand of line, they made line for other companies for the saltwater guys.

I will never switch to another brand again, unless the Suffix guys change something at the company.

Great product and I would suggest if you're gonna give it a fair shot, to atleast try it the whole season, instead of a short sampling of 2 weeks.
