jerk bait
I have a hunting shack in the Bagley area. I was wondering if there are any preserves in this area. I found a couple on internet searches but they don't have websites. Has anybody been to any in the area. Any reviews?
Frogger
Try Eagle Forest Acres west of Blackduck. They have a HSOforum. Best preserve I've ever seen. They have over 6000 acres so there will always be room for you.
jerk bait
Thanks I guess I was looking for somthing closer to the Bagley area. I checked out their HSOforum looks nice but I think it would be about an 1 1/2 hour drive. Have you heard of Ruffy Brook near Clearbrook. I don't even know if they are even in business still. fasternu
I was told that Ruffy Brook is closed. Not 100% sure though. Both of the ones just outside of Bemidji are closed this year. There is a nice one just South of Fosston (McCollum's in Bejou). I am sure they are full for this weekend, but they are great people to work with. Sorry, don't know the number, but check the DNR HSOforum, they have a listing of pheasant farms. I usually hunt Federal Dam, but am going to Eagle Forest Acres this weekend.
klw
agreed....the mccollums are very nice people and they run a good operation. I've been there a 1/2 dozen times and never a complaint.
Blaze
Quote:I think it would be about an 1 1/2 hour drive. It's less than 50 miles from Bagley to Blackduck - were you talking one way or round trip?
jerk bait
My cabin is closer to Fosston and it looks like that one is a ways noth of Blackduck thanks. I think I'll try the one by Fosston. With the low water this year duck hunting is not good near us. Thanks everybody for your help.
12lb8oz
I have hunted there about 25 times over the last 10 years. They will treat you great and have plenty of land to hunt. Their # is 218 935 2468. It should only be about 20 minutes from Fosston.
TMan
I was just there Saturday, there were a lot of birds released the last couple weeks for a couple events over the last two weekends so you should see plenty more than you buy. I hunted a benefit for the United Way and we shot 9 of 15 in 35 mile and hour winds and were toward the top of the pack, 13 won it and some guys got 1! Field number 1 is a good one if you get a chance to get there. Nice ditch and sparse corn and grass mix.Good peeps also, I like the laid back bt professional feeling you get there, it ain't the MN Horse & Hunt Club but it ain't a dive either. It's just a nice place to hunt Pheasant in the nroth country.Good luck to ya.Tackleman
jerk bait
Thanks, I'm not looking for fancy so this sounds like the perfect place. I have a young dog that needs to get on birds. I like the fact that it's close to my hunting shack.

Matt Breuer
Agreed on McCollums! Terry is great, and they run a nice operation! He does well with dogs too, and gave me more insight on training my shorthairs than I could've learned from any book! We've been going there for roughly 10 years, and I wouldn't go anywhere else! jerk bait
Thanks Matt, it sounds like you have a great job that brings you to some good areas to hunt. I used to hunt about 2 miles west of Thief Lake. Is that where that sharpie was? I normally am in the Dakotas chasing roosters but I'm spending this year at our shack between Fosston and Bagley.I haven't done much grouse hunting near our place, there are a few birds around but not enough to hunt But I could be wrong. I know the area well up around Theif Lake, Grygla, etc. and have had some great grouse hunting in those areas in the past. We even shot some Huns up there before and you would have anyplace you wanted to hunt to yourself. I will probably hunt McCollums a couple of times and then take a couple trips for grouse.I'll have 4 days next week with the boys I can't wait. I guess I replied to both of your posts. Matt Breuer
jerk bait, Shoot me an e-mail... mjbreuer at charter dot net. We used to shoot a lot of huns in the Thief River area, they're dwindling though. We shot three total last Winter, and hit one with the car... Sharptail sure are thriving though, all over the area. I got mine near the East side of Agassiz. I missed a small covey as well the next day in the same area. Darn 7.5 shot... From Fosston all the way up to Roseau there are sharpies! As for hunting to yourself, good luck this year, the grygla/fourtown area is flooded with hunters! The word is out that numbers are up, and the ponds are dry, so we've got duck hunters joining in the fun too...
