Dark Cloud
Dad and I got up the Salmon river for the day today. We started out around Ellis cove - River is very high, 1,000 cfs plus runoff. There were fish moving through and dad hooked 3 and I stuck 2. We decided to head down river to look around, got sidetracked driving around and checking the tribs. Then we met up my buddy Wang who was bowhunting for the morning. He has some private access on the upper reached of one of the tribs. We figured with the rain last week and the fresh trickle of fish it would be worth a walk. We found and battled with lots of fish. This isnt my favorite type of salmon fishing cuz with the skinny small creek water these fish cant show thier fighting potential but it definatly was fun catching 15 to 25 lb fish in something we'd normally catch 8 inch brookies. We finished up at the lower flyzone for an hour - dad hooked one and I tangled with 4. Lots of fish in the river but but with the high water they are scattered and everywhere. Heres some picts Dad with his first hook-up of the year. You can see the smile on his face. This was a big fish in the 30lb range - not landed Dad with his first at "secret creek". You can see the fish going nuts... Dad and I with a nice female... An action shot... A big dark male
Fishingking
Sounds like a great time I was at the river Sunday for a few hours it was running at 1200 cfs then. Fish were spread out, ended up pricking one. ID still rather panfish

Can't wait to hear some diner stories or listen in on the hard water between bites.
hanson
I can't believe those big fish are coming out of such a small stream. Looks like the streams we have in SE MN where the 14" browns live. Awesome!
tank
You are right. That stream is smaller than alot of our streams that we fish for 7 to 15 in brook, brown and rainbows.
