Albino Mallard

Recommended Posts

I was talking a little lunch time walk down by the river in brooklyn park and noticed a little flock of mallards flying. In that flock was a completely white duck. Is there such a thing as an albino duck?

Just curious if anybody has seen one.

If so, would love to have it for the wall.

Good huntin',

Dustin

I just had never seen one before. Pure white, not a dark spot on it...

If I were a duck, I would want to be in that flock but just the farthest away from it cause everyone would be gunnin' for it smile.gif

Did you see this by the ponds around NHCC? When I lived in that area, 1989-2000, I seen a white duck in a flock of malards every fall. Either that duck is getting old or it is being replenished somehow. I always assumed that it wasn't albino, but some wild domestic duck.

I was at the park on East River Rd, just north of Missippi st. The thing was buzzin the tower like every other duck. I will probably stop down there again today and maybe snap a photo.

There is such a thing as an albino duck(if you consider a coot a duck). We were on an area lake last year and came upon a raft of coots in the middle was an albino. We didnt think to much of it at the time cuz it was a coot but when we got back to the access my buddy wanted to go back and shoot it. I mean how often do you see an albino coot grin.gif

I have only seen one white mallard. It was laying on the water with a bunch of the normal variety. Don't know if its a genetic thing or there was some cross breeding with a domestic (not sure how that would happen). Definitely stuck out like a sore thumb but would make a cool looking mount. Also so an all white honker during early goose season. The only way I know it was a honker was that it had the canada head but the rest was white. Weird but cool looking.

There is a little park in Wadena MN where there are two albino mallards. I saw one this summer flying over the road, then I saw it land in the pond. Drove down there with the car and got out to look to make sure it wasn't domesticated or something. It was definatly an albino. Drove by again about 2 weeks ago and looked in a different pond near there and spotted two white mallards in with the others.
