echotrail
What do you guys think? If Detroit wins tonight (Saturday) and there is no chance for the Twins to win the division on Sunday, should Gardenhire keep Mauer on the bench Sunday? Unless Cano passes him up in tonights Yankee game, I think he should sit Mauer and make Cano earn it. Now on Sunday, the Yankee game starts 1 hour earlier than the Twins so Gardenhire could always play or DH Mauer if he needs another percentage point. They would need a staffer to keep tabs on Cano's at bats results during the game. The NY press will go off like a rocket (Get out the crying towel here) if Mauer sits Sunday and wins the batting title.
Bobby Bass
I think I would let him sit, let the New York press cry if he wins the batting title on the bench, he has more then enough at bats to support his average. There are several players on the Twins that a day off could prove helpful. Time to start thinking about post season.
echotrail
Wow Jeter got hot today, 3 for 3 and sits at .345! Just 1 point behind Mauer. Best case scenario now is the weather. Rain forcast for Bronx, NY on Sunday is 100% chance of rain. Lets hope it keeps the bats out of Jeter and Cano's hands. They won't make up the game because it has no bearings on the playoff position for New York. They will give Jeter the MVP award anyhow, because the baseball writers will look at his last three games and compare him to the second comming of Christ. Bobby Bass
Can't rest now. Since my post the Tigers have gone out and got themselves another loss. We are back to a one game win or lose the division title. The play of before the play offs!
Spinner1
That's a lot like lookin' for a walk instead of a base hit. Not Mauer's style, nor the Twins. Or the Kitties or Sox, or the hundred loss Royals for that matter.
echotrail
I agree. The whole scenario changed with the Tigers loss last night. Mauer has to play today and personal awards have to take a back seat. With a chance to win the Division you got to play the "A" team Sunday. IFallsRon
WWTWD. Even Ted William's frozen dome would have said play. People who take the easy way to anything are cake eaters and should be kicked in the crotch.
not_nuf_time
Windy City, your right. Backing into a batting title by sitting out. I can see the Milwakees Best can dropping as I write.
