oil brands

I put this in the ATV forum, but thought I'd try it here as well. It's time to put winter oil in my 4-wheeler. I've used yamalube since it was new. in the winter, I run 5w-30. would it make a difference to my wheeler if I went with "regular" oil such as quaker state...etc??? just wondering if the yamaha brand oil is better for the machines or not. thanks to you guys who know!!

I don't know about yamalube being better but I wouldn't put quakerstate or Penzoil in my push mower.

I preffer Mobil 1 or Amsoil myself. To sum it up, for 20 years I was in the Navy we put ONLY synthetic oil in Gas turbine engines that run at over 10,000 rpms and 1200 plus degrees. Regular oil would never work in those and if synthetic is good enough for them its good enough for all my slower speed lower temp piston engines.

I have a Polaris, thus run their synthetic 0W-40 year round. Seems to be a great oil, I change it yearly.

Perhaps Yamaha has as similar synthetic? As has been mentioned, Amsoil makes great stuff too. I run that in my sleds, outboard, and truck differetials.

I run Mobil 1 in alot of my stuff and have no problems with it.I use it in my wheeler for winter to help with cold weather starting.I dont know if your machine is out of warranty,but I would make sure you dont run into a warranty issue if it still has one.
