Willy
This guy has absolutely carried us latelyHe has been hot as a pistol at the plate and it seems like his foot is better because he is now looking like what we have been acustomed to seeing in the outfield. He has his swagger back too - he is stealing bases again. Hitting the ball to all fields and jerking quite a few homers in the mix. All the people that wanted to rip this guy apart earlier can eat a little crow now. He is going to put up some pretty respectable offensive numbers after all. Even though he has been out quite a bit, there is a chance he'll hit 30 bombs and come fairly close to 100 rbis. One thing for next year. BRING HIM BACK!!!! nofishfisherman
He really has turned things around for himself like alot of Twins have.He was brutal early in the year but he is great right now. He still has a few typical Tori at bats where he goes up swinging for the fences every time. He still seems to hit into alot of double plays but he has more then made up for it.I also want him back next year. Re sign him in the off season to a new 4 year deal. Eric Wettschreck
Moreneau (MVP), Cuddy, and Mauer have taken the weight of the world off of Torris shoulders. Torri can start having fun playing ball again and it's showing.
Down to Earth
They were talking about that during the telecast yesterday on how Torii didn't feel comfortable in the 4 spot and Cuddyer has help take that off of Hunter, who is much more relaxed hitting in the 6 spot.I'd like to see him back, but only at the right price. I don't think he's a 12 million dollar guy, but if we can bring him back for around 7-8 I'd be happy with that.
SledNeck
Yep is is about a 7 MILLION a year guy. I really like the way he's been swinging the bat lately.
buzzsaw
Quote: All the people that wanted to rip this guy apart earlier can eat a little crow now You go boy!! Oh wait, this subject was already posted about two weeks ago right... darn, I was going to crucify myself again for bashing that perfect baseball player... I mean why would I bash him when he was swinging at balls three feet out of the strike zone consistantly and when he would hit the ball it was a inning killing double play ball... why would anybody dare give him any greif?? I must have been off my rocker... P.S. I think everybody wanted to eat crow, we all cheer for the Twins, it just gets frustrating when you have a guy that makes alot of money playing so badly... the posts were he was getting bashed were WELL DESERVED... I guarantee you that not ONE person here will argue that fact. I can appreciate you sticking up for your close personal friend Mr. Hunter, just be sure and realize that he deserved the criticism he was dealt. Willy
I agree the critism was well warranted earlier. I am talking about the guys saying he never gets meaningful hits or helping the team much. He is what he is and right now we are seeing the good of the streaky part. Best things is, he is doing it in a playoff race and at a time when we really need him to step up. Works out great for us, and I just don't see any replacement for him on the very near horizon. Span may take over someday, but for next year, I think we need him here to play centerfield.
nofishfisherman
I think giving him 12 million for one year isn't the biggest issue in the world. The way some of you guys talk it sounds like he is signed to a deal that pays him 12 million a year for 5-6 years, its just not the case. On occasion you have to over pay guys for a year like that. When he signs a new deal he won't make 12 million every year, he is more of a 7-8 million guy at the most. Even if we pay him 12 million for one year that pales in comparision to what we had to pay for the services of Kyle Lohse.
IFallsRon
Through Monday with the same number of ABs, J. Jones has mostly better numbers than Hunter. Jones was lucky to get $5 million a year. Why is Hunter be more vaulable?
nofishfisherman
Hunter is much better defensively then Jones.
genegodawa
J Jones will swing at ANY low and in pitch with 2-strikes on him.I will say this, the one interview I saw with him made him seem like a pretty decent guy. Too bad he has faltered both early and late this yr or he would have had even better numbers.
Willy
That is definitely a good look. I will say that Hunter is much better defensively. He is actually thought of as being one of the two best in the game right now. Otherwise, they are very close numbers-wise offensively. One thing that I'll probably get ripped for saying is that Hunter is thought of as the leader of the Twins, even though IMO, it is now Sant, Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer's team.
