ipod question

Recommended Posts

My kid got a ipod for a high school grad gift. Now he is away at college with a b-day coming up and mentioned he would like a item he can "dock" his ipod on with external speakers to listen to his tunes.

I'm not a tech person and have no idea what he is taliking about. Can anyone help me here? Besides being tech-challenged, I'm also cheap so would be looking for something not too high end.

THANKS!!

Basically he is looking for a unit that his IPod will plug into that he can listen to without headphones that will also charge it at the same time. There are quite a few. Not sure how "high end" you want to go, but this one is looks pretty decent:

go to your local Target,Wal-mart, Sam's Club, Best Buy, Circuit City. Pretty much any store that sells ipods will have a few selections, it basic looks like a radio with a dock on the top instead of a cd player.

They shoul be around $50 and up with the decent ones starting around $100.

With most of these, they are not going to get very loud. If they do, they will not have the best sound. I've got the Altec Lansig one ($150) for the fish house (runs off of AA batteries). Mine is the 4 speaker setup. It sounds decent. There are some others like Bose and Harmon Kardon, but they're going to run around $299. I would go to the stores mentioned above and listen to some of them.

You're right, you can hook them up to just about anything with the radio adaptor, but the nice thing about the docks is that they charge it at the same time. Some docks however dont have charging capabilities, so when you buy your son one, I would atleast make sure it has that.

I have the one, as I stated above, then I also have a AV to microphone jack plugged into the back of my receiver. Don't waste your $ on the monster cable ($20 or $30) that does the same thing as a radio shak adapter for $5
