Two weeks ago we pounded them down in Vaughan Lake which I was suprised by because the water temp was 75 degrees. The main lake was 72 degrees. we found them in 14-18 fow in vaughan. We got some nice fish there too largest was 25". Also did pretty good along Farm and Windgo islands for size but the wasn't the quantity of fish here. Good luck

We fish out of Makwa Lodge which is run by the tribe up there. Arrived July 30, left August 5. We always catch tons of fish. We bring a clicker to keep track and people don't believe our numbers. Look for access to deep water near normal walleye spots. Those seem to hold the most fish. Points, rock piles, shoreline breaks and reefs are everywhere. We fish the Pine Point area and east of there. We use Vaughn Lake (not as much deep water) when it is too windy on the big water. Windigo Island and spots west of there are great also. Our fish were mostly caught in 25-30 feet. We use jigs and leeches (even powerbaits) or spinner rigs with bottom bouncers (crawlers or leeches). The spinner rigs seem to catch bigger fish but the action is faster with jigs. Again, look for those spots with deep water nearby, then look for the fish on the spot and stay on them. It is not hard to find fish up there. I think Lac Seul is the best walleye spot in the world. We have been going every year at this time for the past 15 years. Even had a bear in the camp this year and everyone watched it try to get into the garbage box. Lots of big northerns grab your walleyes on the way up. Lots of fun. Watch out for rocks, they are not always marked. You will have a blast. Good luck. (but you won't need any)

Now that is just crazy we where there a week earlier that you Mjen and anytime we got over 20' it didn't seem like we had the luck that we had when in shallower. Just goes to show you never know where they will be. Even though with the water temps of the lake I expected to find them deeper. We would start deep a lot of the time when in te big lake and it seemed like we would drift in and about the time we hit 18 fow we would start getting fish. When we were in Vaughan we probably trolled/drifted 3 miles of shoreline each day we fished it and fishing never slowed enough for us to think of turning around and starting over again. Some good fish to nothing hugh but several 20-25" fish down in Vaughan.

iffwalleyes, we did catch some in shallow, if the wind was up they would move around a lot. In one spot on a reef it was blowing hard and 2 of us were catching fish in a sharp break around 20-25 while our other guy was casting up on top of the reef into the rocks and hooking some. We did not fish Vaughn this trip and I know conditions in there can be diiferent. Most of our fish were caught in 20-30 feet with some even deeper. I was running my boat and I would watch the packs of fish and notice where most were and then try and stick to it. The biggest we got this year was 26.5 inches. We have never found really big fish but almost half of what we caught were over 20.

I just got back from there. We took a houseboat out of Hudson. We went up to Taylor Island. Most of the fish we found were 22 - 25 fow on the gradual sloping reefs. We used 3/8 fireballs with a half of a crawler. I did have some luck with white Gulp grubs. We also used leeches and caught less fish but bigger.

we fished everything for bait and it didn't seem to matter what we used we caught fish. We used alot of salted down minneows and I woudl say they probably were the best. But we did catch on leechs and crawlers as well. Gulp also was very good. I used both gulp and minneows together alot and it seemed like that worked really good if the fish hit you and just tore off the minneow with the gulp they would come back and give it another wack.
