I cannot say for sure, but, there is no difference from going from a topper to a tonneau cover. My mileage has stayed the same.

I consistently get 1-2 miles per gallon better with the tonneau cover than without it. With all the different things i have done to save fuel i was able to get 2o miles a gallon on monday on my way back from bemidji.

Yup, that was exactly what they found in that Myth Busters episode. The bubble prevented the tailgate from having any effect at all on MPG. If you look closely you will see a lip on the top of the cab at the back, and also on the back of the tailgate. Most trucks within the last generation or two have this. I believe those are there to create this bubble effect.

I put a fiberglass tonneau on my '02 Dakota, but it made no difference to MPG (5'3" bed though).
