Slop fishing?

I am trying to find a single hook bucktail that will pull through weeds fairly easy. I have a Lilly-tail, it worked.... but maybe there are better alternatives?

Like the grinder possibily? Any suggestions?

When I am up in Canada fishing 12 hours a day, I need to use some lures that are easy to reel, otherwise my body would total give out. My favorite is the Grim Reaper Wildcat Spinner Bait. The size is in between a Bass spinner and a typical Musky Spinner bait -- Black and Silver. I got a 46" and 4 in the upper 30" range. You can find in the Rollie and Helen's Catalog. Better get 2 because they are not the most durable but they catch fish and easy to use and cost $8.99 ea. They also have these at the Sportsman Warehouse.

Hiya -

What you're looking for is a bucktail called the Rush Buster, made by Wolf Trap Tackle Co. It's a pretty neat bait actually. It has a keel weight in front of the hook so it won't roll over (no line twist) and the single hook is fixed in place, and has a wire keeper for texas-rigging a plastic grub over the hook point. They're weedless as all get out in anything but the stringy brittle dump weeds that nothing comes through clean.

Wolf Trap is owned by Matt Nelson, and I have his contact info at home. I'll post it here when I get home this evening and you can order direct from him.

Seriously, these are pretty cool baits... About the only thing besides a spinnerbait you can throw in rushes.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I actually own one, I think it's called a CatTail. The one I have has feathers (not marabou) and actual skunk fur with 2 single hooks, the back hook is attached to the front hook. I have yet to put a musky on it but more then enough Pike and she's holding up well. This maybe a good option.

The Wisher weedless bucktail is another option....I've never fished with one but have bought the keel weighted single hook they use and made my own and they do seem to do the trick although I haven't spent enough time with them to give reliable input. Think the whole concept was born on a lake I fish here in WI and now the good folks making them are Leech L area I think? Later.

Doesn't it stink to get out fished by a one-armed guy!

Nice signature Lund95!!! wink.gif

Congrats on the first fish! When can you get a picture out here?

For those of you not aware Lund95 (Adam) lost his arm serving in Iraq, so catching the muskie using a prosthesis is quite the accomplishment!! Losing the one boatside is a bummer, but we all can relate!

I'm assuming you're looking for fairly minimal drag on the retrieve, I've spent the better part of a week in Canada using nothing other than the big Johnson silver minnow on pike, should be a viable option for 'skis in the slop too. Lots of other good suggestions on here too!

Hope all is well!

Thanks for all of the ideas. Still debating on which one to get.......

Yeah I am working on getting the pictures up but they are on my fiance's digital camera as of right now. The muskie is by no means big. I thought it was a small pike when I was bringing it in... but your right it was a big accomplishment for me especially since a couple of months ago I thought i would never hunt or fish again.

On a side note: If any of you want to see a little bit about my story:

Adam its great to hear you are back to hunting and fishing. I know I have the greatest amount of respect for you and all of our soldiers. I just want to personally thank you for doing what you did and gave up to help protect our country. I know I probably speak for a lot of us here on the board. We can never be too greatful.

Good fishin, maybe we will meet on the water some day!
