Last night I went cattin with Fish-n-guy and Gooseby10ga.Jeremy[gooseby10ga] caught his first flattie ever going a nice post spawn 36 pounds and another going 8 pounds. cool.gifI also had a great night with my personal best going 31 pounds and the lenght at 39.5. smile.gif

Thanks to Fish-n-guy for putting up with us and it was a pleasure meeting both of you and also fishing. smile.gif

Now,I have to find a 40 pound serpent. It was a very hot night both in temp and fishing. This cattin game seems to be working out just fine as it seems just about every time I go and catch fish they get bigger. Now if I could just catch a channel cat.

Sorry,no pics as the camera was down.I guess one just needs to go catch another and bigger.

All the fish were released and swam away to be caught another day. smile.gif

Harvey you want BIG Channel Catfish come on up to the Red river man. Worlds easiest fishing/catching of and for BIG Channel Cats bar none. The right spot and time and you're about gauranteed a 20+ pounder, if not a couple few of em. What I consider the best time of year is right around the corner and I've been thinking about Catfishing a bit lately inbetween pulling lots of midsummer HOG Walleyes from the good old LOTW. A couple few more weeks of this crazy Walleye fishing and I'll be hitting the Red hard for them Whales.

Try it you'll like it.

Harvey lee, I had a great time with you and Jeremy last night. I'm so happy that both of you were able to hook up with your personal best fish after that crazy hike down there laugh.gif!

It sure seems like the good ones are hitting good as we talked to a couple of others that had about the same luck as us!

We gotta get out again some time laugh.gif

Yeah the fish are coming out of the spawn and looking to feed.

Congrats guys on your catches! It makes dealing with the skeets and the heat alittle easier when you catch fish.

Andy sorry I missed your call I was sleepin.

You are very correct on the heat and the bugs. You get some action and it doesnt matter how hot or buggy it is.It was a good night. smile.gif

I told myself the other day that it was time to go fishing some pannies again as all I have been doing as of late is cattin.I wont be panny fishing next week but I will be cattin. Its a disease for sure.

Thats fine, I wouldn't have answered either after a night like you had grin.gif!!!

Tom, There is no cure for the disease you have called catfish fever. The only thing that you can do is to catch a fish over 40 lbs now. After that you are pretty much screwed as you will start to grow long tenticle like wiskers and aquire an unsatisfying craving for raw bullheads and creek chubs shocked.gifgrin.gif!!

Harvey Lee and Fish N Guy, thanks for putting up with me the other night I to have caught the fever. I really did not even notice those bugsor heat nearly as much after catching that 36 pounder then to get the bonus 8 lb a couple hours later Wow! It was great. Hope to get out fishing yet this week again, so if anyone wants to try and get out for a few hours let me know. This was a great trip and I just look forward to getting a picture of the next one. Thanks again to Fish N Guy for taking me and Harvey and putting us on fish, it was great to fish with both of you!

Goose

I would probably be interested in going during the week this week,I just dont know what night. The time that would work for me would be around 7,but I would like to be done by 11-11:30.A older fellow like myself needs his sleep. wink.gifJust maybe a guy could pop another 30-40 pounder. It was a very fun night. Our only problem would be is to find some of that secret bait.Seems that was the ticket.I could bring some more bullies but the cut stuff seemed to be the ticket for those bigger kitties.I do have some sucker for cut bait also.

Flathead Fishing Rule #1- Always, Always, Always have a camera with you! Some guys I know carry 2 in case camera 1 fails! You never, ever know when the fish of a lifetime will be caught. Afterall, its just a fish story without a photo. blush.gif

Congrats on the 36lb! Heck of a first fish and you'll have a hard time topping that one for awhile now.

Hanson, I will have to agree with you from now on I will be carrying 2 cameras one will just be an old trusty 35mm but at least I will have a pcture when I take the film in. It sure would have been great to get a picture but for me I had just a much fun catching and releasing that fish with a great story to tell as to having the picture. I had to great people to fish with and share in a great night of cattin'. It will be one of those lessons that I had to learn, and will never forget again to have at least one but probably 2 cameras whenever down at the river. I thought my bonus fish of 8 lb was great, so it is just one those things I was looked downed upon by th Cat Gods with a smile that night camera or not. I hope to catch another one soon, which I don't expect to beat that 36 ponder but just to catch another one would be great, there are truely a awesome sport fish!

Speaking of the cat gods, maybe if we would have had a fully functional camera those 2 bigguns wouldn't have bit. I have had a camera with a full battery all year long just in case that piggy wants to come out and play. I never had a chance to use it on a nice fish until the other nite ooo.gifgrin.gif!! Maybe they are tryin to tell me something grin.gif!

I got a bunch more of that secret bait today, so we should be set for next time!!!!

I wonder how many cat fisherman have caught a 36 for thier first fish? That was a nice job you did Saturday night Jeremy.

That's the problem with this, you catch a big one and spend the rest of your life trying to find a bigger one. It's the never ending quest.

It's not like bowling, you roll a 300 game.......then what. frown.gif

Sorry, just had to take a shot at Grumps wink.gif

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
