Outboard motor carburetor help needed

my son picked up an old sears gamefisher 71/2 hp motor. we used it a couple of times, but it never ran right. It would run for a short while then quit. it would start again, run a few seconds more than quite. this past year we were unable to get it to start at all, so I decieded to tear it apart and check and clean the carb. there is a tag attached to the carb with the name TECUMSEH on it. any one know if this might be who made the motor or did tecumseh also make carbs? I found a rubber piece that is torn so I am hoping to be able to fix it, if I can get more info on it.

For awhile Tecumseh made outboards. Do you have a carb number on the motor you have. I might be able to find the rebuild kit if I have the carb number.

I remember an old Sears that my Grandpa had that was made by McCullough.

Sears is pretty good about part availability for old stuff.

Get the serial number and give them a call or visit their on-line parts site.

do you work for a shop? the numbers on the carb are 640-17A. found a site that has the same carbs, but did not see any with the same numbers.

I beleive I own the same motor you have. And as I recall it is a Tecumseh motor. I had to replace the fuel pump in the carb when I bought it, and I had no problems finding the pump and gaskets. So I am guessing they are readily available.

The gamefisher worked well, but it was noisey and shook a persons fillings out. Mine, unfortunately, hasn't been used in 7 or 8 years.

Naw. I Have rebuilt many of my own carbs and a lot for people I work with. I cant cross that part number you gave however I am assuming that this is a four stroke. Maybe do an internet search for tecumseh rebuild kit 632760B and see if the parts in that kit looks like what you have. It is probably the most common Tecumseh kit on the market.
