I have a 99 150 O66 EFI on a Lund ProV 1800. Motor is powerful and will push this boat 45 to 52 MPH depending on the load. Great performer thus far. The only problem I encountered was one fuel pump failed. The mechanic that worked on it says this problem was just one of those things and not very common. This motor is no fuel sipper especially at WOT.

I recently purchased a 182 Crestliner Tourney Series with a 175 VMAX HPDI. Only had it out a handful of times, but so far I am very pleased with the performance. Very good power and acceleration. It will also troll down quite well for a 175HP, 2.0 to 2.5mph. I was up to Mille Lacs this past weekend, running all over the lake at 50mph and it only used a quarter tank of gas. So I guess so far I am pretty satisfied with the fuel consumption as well.

I had an '02 150 V-max HPDI on a Lund 1775 Pro-V a few years back and to this day that is the best outboard I've ever owned and I've owned my share.

Instant start, mega holeshot and plenty of punch at all throttle positions.

The OX66 V-Max's are absolute brutes in terms of power but their oxygen sensors can be sensitive and they love to guzzle the fuel.

Good luck...

The only catch here is that they didn't make the 150 in 2001 as a HPDI...

Regardless, the V-max motors are pretty bullet proof.. they have a lot of power and won't sip gas, but they're good motors.

Thanks Marineman; some confusion whether this V-Max was HDPI or carbed, sounds like it must be carbed...I'm on my way to water test it soon, I'll let ya know how it goes!

Are the VMAX HPDI better than the carbed version as far as fuel consumption? As stated earlier I have a 02 175 VMAX HPDI and really haven't been too disappointed about the amount of fuel it guzzles. My previous engine was just a 30HP 2 stoke, so obviously it uses more gas than my old motor, but to me it doesn't seem that bad. Rarely do I run wide open.

Most likely an EFI with injectors not carbs.

I'm not 100% certain on this, but were the pre-OX66 V-max's EFI?

In regard to fuel efficiency, the HPDI would be better than carbed, and the straight fuel injected would be slighly worse than the HPDI, but not much.
