All the Flatheads I've heard about this early have been caught on accident by guys targeting walleye and white bass. I'm thinking about targeting Flats this weekend though.

Cut shad or 2 to 3 whole emerald shiners has been working for me on the sippi and MN rivers for a while now. Gizzard shad and Emeralds are a plentiful forage in the Miss/MN rivers that seem hard to beat for channel cats.

I got out today on the red with some success. I missed a lot of fish but did end up landing one around 9 pounds. I was using cut sucker fishing shoreline snags.

The catfish are really turning on on the Red...three of us caught 19 today including 6 fish between 9 and 14 pounds, all came on cut golden eye. Deep shorline snags were holding all the fish.

I pulled out a nice channel on a piece of cut bullhead. Only had time to fish for an hour or so though. We took him home and before we cooked it up, we cut its stomach open. I bet i pulled at least 4 crayfish out of the stomach. I don't know if they're legal for bait in Minnesota (i know they aren't on one of the rivers i fish on the Wisconsin/Michigan border) but im definitely checking on that detail before i go out again.

Shad, smelt,or a gobba crawlers have all produced Channels and an occasional Flathead for me so far this year on the Miss. I just got home from the river about an hour ago. Had a good time. Can't wait for tomorrow! Oh, wait, it is tomorrow. smile.gif

Creek mouth and current seams are doing it for me right now.

Be sure your bait (bullhead preferred) is in the water between 9-11pm.

Water temp is 67 on the MN now.

Was out last night from about 7pm to 10pm on the WI River. Had about 10 light runs, but I only hooked three, most dropped. Caught two small channels and one surprising northern. Cut creek chubs.

Was out again last night from 6-10:30 on the Wisconsin, think the weather was wreaking havoc on the fishing. Caught a half dozen small walleyes on cut-bait and my first sturgeon on a gob of crawler. Neat fish, and quite a fight. No cats at all.
