if i had one to choose it would be the leech laker, not only is each one a unique work of art but i doubt there is a fillet knife more funtional, and specialized for cutting up one's catch.

they are a bit spendy though... i forget the price, anybody?

If you want just a standard fillet knife I agree with the Leech Lake they are a great knife. At 70-80 dollars though most people don't think they are worth the money but they are. If you are even remotely curious for a electric knife I highly recommend Rapalas electric model very nice light wt. electric knife. These are the two models that I use all the time.

I would recommend the leech laker. I bring mine to the sportsmans show and they sharpen it up for me each year. I have started using an electric knife. If you have access to electricity this is the only way to go. The battery one we have is junk. After one year it won't even hold a charge.

Here is another vote for Cutco. I have an aunt that was on my case at every family function to buy one from her and I always refused because I thought it was to expensive. Finally, she just gave me one to try out and show my friends. I told her even then that I wasn't going to purchase the knife, and that she was just wasting her time trying to sell me something I wasn't even going to consider buying. I still have the knife, only now I own it because after using it one time to remove "Y" bones, I had to have it. Persistent salesperson? No. The knife is that good. IMHO-Troy

Dunn Knives make great cutlery.

I have one of their fillet knives on my Xmas whish list. There are several different choices of handle material, and they run about 130 bucks.

Dunn knives are well known among trappers who do their own skinning. They are very good at holding an edge for a long time.

For Xmas last year the wife gave me one of those fish cleaning sets in the plastic case (3 knives, scissors, cutting board, etc.), its not a brand name but it is really handy - the knives are pretty good quality, and sharpen up nice. I think she got it at Fleet Farm? It was a great gift.

I was waiting to hear the best mentioned, "Wusthof" bar none is the best. Full tang on every knife. IF you can afford one, Wusthof is the best. The only problem is you will want to buy the entire set for the kitchen and that will run ya about $1300!!

A couple years ago, my kids bought me a Wustof fillet knife for father's day. Its an amazing blade and great German craftsmanship. The problem is that its so nice and cost so much that I'm afraid to take it along and risk losing it when I travel away from home to fish.
