Recommended Posts

I am going up to moosehorn the end of july...could the fishing get better? Also with the warm weather what does that do for the fishing for pike, eyes, smallies, and ski's..please let me know

Csuram,

My 2 cents,

We were up in the 2nd week of June and We didn't catch as many fish as last year during the same week. Several factors contributed to this. One is that we had two newbies in our boat and I spent a lot of time trying to make sure they caught as many fish as possible so I didn't fish as much. So when we hit a pocket of fish I spent much of my time netting and removing hooks etc. Didn't do much for the total fish count but it was just as much fun watching their faces as they caught fish after fish.

Probably the biggest factor was because of the early spring this year the fish were already moving to their summer patterns and our usual spots weren't producing as much but the guys running the boats didn't want to try too many new spots. So we spent a lot of time pounding spots for little gain.

Moral of this story is don't worry, the fish are there and biting, you just have to be willing to try different techniques and spots. Besides, even if you don't catch as many fish it still beats being at work right?

Regards and good luck,

CH47

I was fishing Lac Seul between June 15-22nd; since it was my first time fishing that area I can't comment on how it compares to years past, but I can say it was the best fishing that I've ever had. We caught most of our fish in 12-16 feet of water either by jigging, trolling crank baits or spinners. We caught our biggest northerns and walleyes trolling, but jigging was good for getting higher numbers of fish.

I guess I wouldn't worry too much about catching fish. I think you can catch them on colored hooks if that's all you have!

Have fun - I know I'll be going back next year!!!

I too was up there during the 2nd week in June. We were actually on Lost Lake which is just south of Lac Seul near Hudson. We struggled for the first few hours to locate them. Then we realized the water surface temp was about 10 degrees warmer than usual for this time of year and we started searching deeper. We found them 8' - 10' instead of the usual 4' - 6' as in the past. Once we located them, it was fishing as usual.

We also noticed the average size was up a little from previous years.

We were there June 17-23. Fished Lost Lake and Lac Seul and it was fishing as usual up there. Caught them in 8' the first day and by the following Friday they were at 27'-29'. You gotta remember they aren't going to be on the same spot and same depth every year. Our gig is to give no spot more than ten minutes without connecting with numbers or size. After a few trips you develop a bunch of spots and keep finding a few more every year.

Just returned last night (6/24-6/28)from Hudson area and we had to search but then we pounded them once we found them. Had alot of fish between 20-26 inches ( walleyes) and the northern fishing was amazing......5 gators between 40-42 inches all very fat fish. We did catch alot more of the small walleyes between 5-12 inches then I can ever remember....Found the walleyes anywhere from 3-25 feet.

caught the therns in the weeds..one on a jig fishing for walleyes and the rest casting various lures and retrieving......all fish released to fight another day.....the mayfly hatch was going big in most areas but where the best walleye fishing was we didn't notice them as much......

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
