Fish in the Microwave??

Recommended Posts

Hello all. A friend of mine used to make fish in the microwave. Has anyone ever tried this? What is the recipe? Also we used to bake fish with ranch dressing and potato chips. Anyone ever tried this? It has been a few years(well more than a few) but I can't remember how these recipes went. Thanks for the info.

May your bellies stay full of fish!!

I can't help you with the recipe, but cooking fish in the nukerowave just sounds wrong. crazy.gif Baked is good, but the only way to eat fish is deep fried with a little lemon juice or tarter sauce...mmmmm....mmmmm...makn' my mouth water just thinkn' about it.

It's a good quick way to make some poached/baked fish. Just put in in a dish with your favorite seasonings on it, maybe a little butter or oil and an ounce or two of liquid for moisture. Cook until done. All microwaves vary, so you'll have to watch it. Don't over cook it though, unless you like rubbery fish.

Anytime I'm out ice fishing and get a bunch of crappies, after I'm done cleaning I usually snack on a few. Just take a shallow glass dish, lay your fillets out flat, put your favorite seasoning on them - lemon pepper, venison seasoning, Montreal steak seasoning, cover with saran wrap, and nuke a minute or two. They're done when they're white, a little standing time doesn't hurt, if you cook too hard, they'll start 'popping'. Quick and easy and delicious. If you're not worried about fat and cholesterol, add a little chunk of butter on each fillet.

I've used the microwave for cooking trout and it can work very nice. We would place the trout in a microwave safe pan along with butter, lemon, and seasoned to taste. I don't remember the cooking time so you'd have to experiment but it can be a great way to add variety.

This is not a suggestion but, a guy that I bought some property from used to put his sunnie fillets in cornflakes and then toast them in his toaster. Then he would make a fish sandwich.

Although many claim fried fish is the best I seldom eat it and my entire fishing crew begs me every year to make up my alternative recipes such as baked fish or fish soup. When at home my wife prefers the following microwave recipe:

Take your fish fillets and arrange in a 12x8x2 baking dish. (Keep thickest fish to outside edge of dish.) Season with a little salt and pepper (lemon pepper works well) and one seasoning I recommend with any fish is Old Bay Spice.

In a measuring cup melt a half stick of butter and then add a tablespoon of chopped parsley and some lemon juice. Pour this over the fillets and coat well. Then sprinkle some cracker crumbs over the fillets. Buttery cracker crumbs work well such as Ritz crackers, oyster crackers, corn flakes or a combination of all.

Cover dish with wax paper and microwave on high for 5 minutes, turn dish and microwave another 5 minutes. May have to adjust time depending on the size of the fish. Quick, easy and doesn't stink up the house.

Of course you need to have some good homemade tartar sauce (don't forget to add some dill weed!) cole slaw and toasted bread.

Enjoy.
