Spro's Bronzeback Frog

I just bought a couple of these good looking lures. Cost $8 a piece but I tell you it's worth my money. I caught 2 6+lbs and a 5 1/2lbs bass just this weekend alone. Man, do I love topwater, now these frogs are next on the list. I guess the inner city lakes does still have big hawgs. What are your thoughts on these new lures or any other favorite new ones you like?

Nice fish! I bought a few and tried them out briefly and was extremely impressed with how well they cast and how they ride in the water. Unfortunately, the place where I threw them contained only fish smaller than the bait....will be a big part of my topwater plan this summer though.

My best color is probably white. A plain white frog or a frog with a white belly has always catch me fish regardless. But again, with the way I fish, color doesn't matter when you're on top of the thick, nasty stuff. They just bite on movement on top of the water from then on.

I've been using the Dean Rojas Bronze Eye Frog from Spro the past few weeks and am extremely impressed. The bait is compact allowing for good hookups, casts like a bullet, and has fantastic side to side walking action in the open pockets. It has definitely become a favorite in my arsenal.

As you can tell by my screen name I'm pretty big on the SPRO frog as well! They have a smaller version coming out this fall. Not sure about the size but they are calling it the Rojas Jr.. Should be really exciting to see it perform.

If you like all white Gander had an all white called the Albino for awhile but I haven't seen them since I bought my two. Haven't been able to find them anywhere else either. Hopefully they will fill there stock back up soon. A few too many pike running around this world.

Check out their HSOforum Rojas explains how to trim the skirts to make them walk more or chug more. Goldenboy did you have to trim them to get them to walk?

Yes Spro guy, I have found that trimming the legs improved both the side to side walking action and my hook-up percentage. I haven't been able to find the albino solid white color yet. I am very interested to see what a smaller version will be like. I am using a 7'10" Falcon Frog rod with braid and can cast the current size great. The slop bite is already getting good for me this year, typically I don't start getting consistent frog fish until late June.

The Gander Mountain in Maplewood has a lot of the albino Bronzeback. I don't think anybody would want to buy a $8 lure, but me. Looks like they're pretty good in stock too.

Hey Goldenboy, where did you get that rod? I've just been using the standard 7ft MH. I remember you are a big fan of those Falcon's. I bought a couple over the past few years but never seen one that long. I use the same action that Rojas says is the way to go. Is the extra length on the 7'10" worth it? I tried using a flipping stick but it didn't seem like I could get the same action in the tip.

Also MLVAJ, thanks for the Maplewood comment, I've been waiting for my local Woodbury store to get them back in. I'll be headed over to Maplewood sometime this weekend. Trying to get out fishing on Sunday so it might have to wait, I'd rather fish with Natural Green then buy Albino and not get to use either one!

Where have you guys been seeing your best Slop action? I was down on Pool 4 last night and got a couple in the slop on the Rojas but didn't seem like the big ones were willing to go yet.

I was throwing the redish/maroon colored spro on Demonterville last night....got only one fish. The thing i love most about the frog is that it is much heavier than the typical scum frogs. However, the pricetag may keep me from buying many more.

Thanks mlvaj for the Maplewood Gander info. I am partial to the white color and will have to try to seek some out this week. Sproguy, in regards to the 7'10" Falcon Frog Rod; Joe or Matt at Reel Fishing and Tackle in Madison Lake (SouthcentralMN-board sponsor).

Ole, the Spro frogs I have bought have leg strands approx 4 inches straight out of the package. I have been trimming about 1 to 1.5 inches from each set of leg strands. In my very limited experience the past few weeks, the trimmed legs have helped improve the side-to-side walking ability in open water.

Ole, I have to agree with Goldenboy on this one. About an inch is a good starting place but take about 1/4" cuts from there. I have one frog that I think I cut a little to much off. So as golden has said they usually end up being 1 to 1 1/2" when it is all said and done. Then take a new one out of the box and throw it side by side. You can really see the difference then! I have a couple with long legs and a couple that I cut. Hope that helps.

I caught several nice fish on the Red/Brown color this past weekend, including two over 4lbs. Sportmans Warehouse up in Coon Rapids has the cheapest that I have seen. I also saw on TV that if you trim one set of legs shorter by about 1/2" it actually walks better.... I also found a really nice 7'10" Trophy rod that throws frogs great! It was marked $49.99, but it rang up $37.26 with tax shocked.gif
