fishinaddict
I bought a pack of these things today for some eye fishing at the dam. They loved em, and of course I caught some bullheads, even had a carp attack it by shore. Anyone else usem? I'd show some picks but they are those "very disturbing" stringer pics. gheenz
I love fishing for eyes, but never really use plastics. How do you rig Sassy Shad, and how do you work 'em?Any advice would be appreciated.
Deitz Dittrich
I fish them quite a bit.. for walleyes, Smallies and Largemouths.. I just rig them on a jig head with a large hook. You can jig them or just reel them back in striaght.
gheenz
Thanks a lot Deitz, I think I might buy a pack of 'em and try 'em out, I'll try them for bass too, love the plastics for bass, but I'm really excited to try them for walleye.
eyepatrol
DeitzAre there particular water conditions or time of year where these are most effective? I've been trying them pretty religiously since walleye opener, but haven't had so much as a sniff yet. I've been riggin mine with a Lindy Techni-glo max-gap jig in the 1/8th and 1/4oz sizes. Deitz Dittrich
Sounds like you have the rig down pretty good. Plastics do seem to work better as the water temps rise in my opinion.. then the fall is where they really shine in my opinion. I however the other day got on a school of walleye that would only hit plastic.. I caught 19 while a boat very near me got skunked!
eyepatrol
Thanks for the info Deitz. I'll definitely keep after 'em and one of these days I'll hopefully cash in.
Deitz Dittrich
Glad I could help... one tip may be to find the fish with live bait... Then go with the plastic.. I have found many times that I can catch the larger fish on plastics. And this also saves on bait?!~
eyepatrol
I have tried that a couple times this year, but I haven't come upon any schools of fish yet, just scattered here and there. I'd prefer to catch fish on plastics as you mentioned, it saves on bait and there isn't the "hassel" of having to re-bait. I've got some nice crappies on plastics this year, and all ya got to do is take the fish off, straighten out the plastic and cast back out. It's a nice, easy, effecient way of fishing. I've got the SouthCentral MN get-together coming up in a couple weeks where Team Otter has been generous enough to welcome me into his boat. I'm sure I'll get a good schooling that day on plastics! Thanks for the help.
Borch
I love them! Especially in rivers with a good bullhead population. Yellow sassy shads have put a lot of nice eyes in the net for me!
