If it's true, I say it's talk. Hey, if ya didn't make it, take it like a man and GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't take away from the team who put the time and effort in to get it right! They deserve to be in it, he doesn't.

This will just irk me if it's true. mad.gif

Like Darrell like Mikey, both of them now hold the honor of having to buy their way into the 600. It does happen but it seems to happen more if you name is Waltrip and are on the downhill side of your career.

Lets not forget that he also purchased Penske's third team (the naming rights anyways) after it folded shop so he could get into the first few races of the year. Is it him or the cars that can't run up front? Find out for sure next year because if Mikey runs up front next year imagine what could happen in the hands of a good driver?? grin.gif

This is the voting off of nascar dot coms HSOforum on the Mikey deal.

Michael Waltrip purchasing Derrike Cope's car in order to run the Coca-Cola 600 was... ?

Perfectly fair 16189 29%

Questionable 15573 28%

Dirty pool 23429 42%

TOTAL 55191 Votes

There was a nice article there too about it. They interviewed Mikey, Childress and J. D. Gibbs and they all understand it, but nobody likes it.

Does anybody know if these new Toyota teams will have to start next year with no previous years points or are they going to get some sort of guarantee for the first few races?

Who knows. Just to throw out some minor sarcasm, they'll probably buy their spots in the races...just like Mikey! That buying a ride is just horsedung. I talked to a loyal Mikey fan tonight and HE didn't even like it!

Rumor has it that Mikey had some money left over from the car purchase and paid off Robby Gordon to spin out Jarrett so that the #55 wouldn't finish in last place. grin.gif

Yes I am still around. I really dont see this as that big of deal. If I was a betting man, I would bet that any owner with a sponsor as large as Napa would have done the same thing. To compare DW and Michael is a joke. Others may think that Michael is a joke. That is fine. These owners have LARGE responsibilties to their sponsors. It was Copes car he recieved the points and the winnings. The money he was paid by Michael, Napa or whoever was probably more than he would have made himself racing. Sounds like a good deal to me.

How many other single car teams are sucessful right now?? These multi-car teams are the reason we have these non-issues. (Nascar can share some blame too)

So now you guys can continue your UNABASHED HATERED for Michael and NAPA

The only time Mikey was good was with DEI on plate tracks. With those cars almost anyone could have done well.Let him have his Toyota's.

I beg to differ. Is Truex a force on the plate tracks?? Mikey got garbage from DEI, just like what Truex has. DEI had good plate cars because they were the first team to actually have a specfic dept for building plate cars.

You cannot compare DEI's plate cars of today to yesterday.Other teams have figured out the game. When Mikey was winning some plate races DEI was still strong, not anymore. So,you cannot compare Truex to Waltrip.Apples to apples my friend. all I can say is wait until next year.Waltrip doesnt win anywhere he goes.Wait, maybe if you change teams enough times you might find a team that will help you win.Maybe that was DEI. smile.gif

One thing that a guy needs to also consider is that Truex is a rookie and Waltrip is a veteran.

That is awesome!!

Cope made more money than if he would have run the race! I'd love to hear what he made the Japanese pay for that ride!

Look for Jarrett to get naming rights to the Darrel Waltrip past Champion provisional starting spot because next year it will be all Jarrett.....all the time!

On Inside Nextel Cup Racing last night on Speedtv Mikey got a bit angry about being accussed of buing his way into the race. He said he did not buy his way "We gave Cope's team some money as long as they agree'd to let me drive". If that isn't buying your way in I'll eat your shoe. I predict this won't be the first time he has to do this this year and how many people can say they got out qualified by Derrick Cope? Mikey has turned into such a pretentious piece of dump peddling everything he can for money. If he where a woman he be a hooker.

Totally agree, anyone could have won in those plate cars DEI fielded three-four years ago. Now the competition is very close, maybe Hendrick has the advantage, but its small. The interesting part of that though, is no one discredits Little E's wins in those same cars during that same time frame. Take them away and he only has a hand full of Cup wins in total...

HMMMMMMMMMM...OVERRATED??? grin.gif
