My understanding is you can't have a weapon with you while baiting pre-season (unless you have CCW permit) because of poachers would use it as an excuse to cover their rear ends.

i was told by the CO that you coul carry it on you, but it had to be a big-game legal caliber, and that you had better be able to prove that you were being attacked.
