spinning lindy rig

Recommended Posts

Just found this forum, seemed to be a question someone could help me out with.

I fished mille lacs this past weekend. Caught a few good fish, but ran into a problem: had trouble with my leader and leech spinnig.

Tried a number of presentations:

1.straight leader (walker, split shop, hook - flourocarbon)

2.same as above with mono

3. classic lindy (walker, barrel, leader and hook

Best combo seemed to be number 1 with 4 pound.

Only could catch one fish and the line would spin again

Any ideas on how to make the leech swim as natural as possible, because it made a difference.

Put a bead between your weight and swivel. Alot of times the swivel will catch in the weight and not work, thus resulting in a twisted line and leader.

Welcome aboard jmikes.

It needs to go like this:

Weight

Small Bead

Barrel Swivel

Fluorocarbon Snell

Hook

Leech, make sure leech is hooked from right behind the bottom of the sucker up to the top.

I usually only get a twist issue from a balled up leech that has not been acclamated to the lake water. They go into shock and do a death roll sort of thing. This can mean death to the fishing of they twist to long. Make sure when you drop them on the hook into the water they do not roll up before dropping it all the way to the bottom. I would recommend keeping them in the livewell or on the top tray in a cooler that has one. Not directly on ice. The same holds true if you drop them into water colder than they have been in.

One of the easiest fixes can be making sure your leech is hook perfectly strait. How many natural leeches spin in a circle? But also always make sure you have a good swivel on. Some times weeds or mud can turn a good swivel into a bad one.

Tony has this right. Get the Leeches acclamated to the lake water temp at least an hour before dropping them into the lake to fish. It really helps. I also like to use a Smile Blade spinner from Macks Lure company. They spin at virtually no forward speed. Many different colors to chose from also. I use the Foam Walker sinker, Bead, Snap swivel, Florocarbon leader, Smile Blade, four beads, Plain Hook with my Ice Buster Bobber Foam (approx 3/8ths inch cut piece) and a Leech or just the Plain hook with my Bobber foam for a floater. Have Fun, Bruce Mosher

How do you all hook your leeches when trolling or using a lindy rig, or even under a boobe for that matter?

I usually hook the leech once just below the sucker and then put the hook back threw the body one more time. I have some problems with the leech balling up but not alot. Whats the best way to hook those leechs in your opinions?

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
