LEAKY WADERS

PISCATOR

Question

I realize this is probably an old question but I am having trouble plugging the dyke. I evidently did not quite make it over a barbed wire fence and have an annoying leak in my neoprene waders. I have tried the rubber patch (several times) but that is not very effective on the fabric of the neoprene waders. I have tried to get under the outside fabric but that has not worked, either. Any sure fire ways to stop the leaking?

They have neoprene repair kits in most sporting good shops. I can't remember the name of the stuff, but I am sure the sales person could point you in the right direction.

Good Luck!

I'm not sure where you're located, but if you're near the Twin Cities, try Harris Canvas near University and 280. They'll have what you're looking fore.

I'm not sure how waterproof it would be, but I think that I've heard that super glue works wonders on Neoprene. Anyway, if nothing else, give them a call and they'll set you right up, even if it's just an answer. Good guys over there!

i don't mean to sound pompous but i have the answer. The stuff is called Aquaseal. Cabelas has it and it is the bomb. i have experimented a rediculous amount with other things and this is by far the best stuff out there. It started as a products for scuba divers in the deep sea. Not long after duck hunters suffering from cold and wet feet discovered it and it has bloomed an blossomed into a glorious product. I don't work for them but it really is that good. ike

How can you tell WHERE the leak is? I have my first pair of neoprene and after putting in the dock I noticed my thigh was wet/damp. I could not tell where the leak originated from looking at the inside or outside. Does a person just hose down the whole area with this aqua seal? Any help for this rookie would be appreciated.

I've gotta pick this thread back up because I'm having trouble with my waders. I thought I had the holes patched with Hodgman's Neoprene Urethane Adhesive, but I'm getting wet in the same spots. I've also noticed that the stitching in the dead center of the crotch is coming undone...only about a milllimeter, but it is a slow leak. Any suggestions on what else to try with the patches? Am I not finding the correct leaks? What is the best way to find them. I've tried to just look for the wet spots and then mark them to patch them later after drying but that didn't seem to work....How about the stitching, what should I do about that?

When i got the aquaseal i ran a bead over all the seams. I've currently got over 3 tubes of patchs including the whole crotch area where the neoprene failed. Wonderful stuff. I've heard a story where someone cut off a leg and used aquaseal to reattach it and it held.

To find a leak either fill the boot full with water and look for all leaks and mark them or i like to tie my shop vac hose into each leg and set the vac so it blows out, then rub dishwasing detergent all around the boot. Any leaks will bubble up. I've also done this to waterbed mattress several times. Works great,

Norsk,

I found my leak by running a flashlight along the suspected area. You can see a pin hole of light coming through, you have to be in a dark room of course. Now the repair kit that came with the waders says to put the patch on the inside and cut the thin fabric to apply the patch, then iron it. That doesn't make too much sense to me, is that right?????
