Guest
My schedule is open in June. It sounds like fun to me..But every time I plan on doing something on the Minnesota river, the inevitable happens and I cant make it! Usually due to lack of finances, or illness.Maybe I should have Manny stop by here and force me to go at gunpoint!I want to go.. I have a great boat for it and would have some room.. I hope to see you all there!
harvey lee
Count me in,but I will be fishing from shore.
Kurt Paulsen
I will probably be fishing from shore as well. There is alot of real estate along Land of Memories, though, so it shouldn't be too painful. So the 24th then?
rushing
Aqua - I'm not really sure how big your boat is, but Jamie is right. This is a much smaller part of the river than toward the cities, and since the river is so unpredictable as far as depth you would be better off with a 16ft. With any size boat its always better to take it slow on a new stretch. I don't fish out of a boat to often so maybe others will be able to chime in. Dennis Steele
AQUA,Bring the smaller rig. You'll be happy you did.No sense wrecking your "good rig" on a snag infested, shallow stretch of river. So BBQ early afternoon and fish all night??
river rat316
sounds very interesting, is that a Saturday night? If so I might have to come down and try and follow Dennis around.... and remember to bring my gps......only problem is I think my boats not fast enough, it sure doesnt like riprap banks and snags as well as Denniss' does I have a boat can probably bring 2 more guys if someone wants to supply me with gear! AQUAJOE
Ha I just caught the whole fishing at night thing. Now I understand why people would rather fish from shore. Hmmn.
honky kong
i'll make sure i get out of work. this time i'm gonna make sure chris and i get a truck lined up so we don't end up on shore again. it was a bummer to not have the means to get the boat from the storage shed to the river last year at st. peter. oh rob you done with my dvd's yet? i need to watch them again, soon. harvey lee
Will the set-up I used for the Sturgeon exc.work for these kitties? 1-King Kat pro rod 1-Abu 6500 reel 1-80# power pro 1-misc no-rolls,2-6oz 1-misc circle and aberdeen hooks,2/0-5/0 Also, what shall I bring for bait? hanson
Tom-You should be good. You'll want to go bigger on your hooks though for the flathead cats. Lots of us like 8/0-10/0 Gamakatsu Octopus since that is what we can find locally available. Large Kahle hooks are fine, once again 8/0-10/0. Some guys do like the circle hooks for flatheads as well in you guessed it, larger sizes.Bait? Big live baits such as sucker minnows, creek chubs, and bullheads. icehousebob
The 24th is a great weekend for it. How could anyone want it on the 17th?? Everyone knows that the 17th is the weekend of the South Dakota Air Guard Missouri River Invitational Walleye Tournement. You can't have two major events on the same weekend. One or two of my little boys want to come also. I'll come if I'm allowed to bring a bunch of food for the cook-out. THERE WIIL BE A FEED'WON'T THERE?? There should be. We have the option of a 12 ft. jon boat, a 17&1/2 ft. jon boat or a 12 ft. zodiak. Which of these would be good for those waters?
nitefisher
is there anyone who can make up a flyer and put it on this forum so i can print it out for the stores here in the lake minnewaska area? there are a lot of cat fisherman around here and i am sure they would like to join in this event.or is this for just the people on this site?. Ralph Wiggum
Nitefisher, spread the site to all the people you fish with. It's always nice to get new people on FM!
nitefisher
thats why i was wondering if there could be a flier made up about this gathering and i can make coppies and put them in the local bait shops around here free of charge.
rushing
Not sure if we really need fliers. Seems like we are going to have a pretty good turn out as it is. But by all means spread the word on Fishing Minnesota. As far as cooking out, I think its a great idea but I personally haven't access to a grill to bring. Dennis Steele
I can bring a grill, but the way this is going, one grill won't cut it! Bob, The jon boats would work fine. You just need to decide how comfortable you'd like to be. Leave the Zodiak at home. Sharp sticks and inflatables don't mix!
