It is Muskie opener morning...

...and you can hardly contain yourself thinking about that first follow, first legal, personal best, 50 incher, state record, world record, or a Louis Spray record, whatever plateau you are shooting for.

What are you going to tie on for that first cast?

My lure arsenal is not big, but I have a feeling that off season lure purchases at the Extreme Show and Thorne Bros. is going to make my decision difficult.

Feel free to discuss how weather or a particular lake will effect your decision. Or is going to be an old reliable?

Let's here some first cast choices and why.

I don't even know for myself, but I will be out on Tonka, on the Westside.

As of now I am leaning towards a Rad Dog or CJ's Spinnerbait. This will be my third season and I have the most confidence in blades and hair, easiest to work also.

You'll probably see me out there then. I'll be somewhere on the west end of Tonka tossing bucktails. From there I'll most likely downsize to Husky Jerks or something. I guess that depends on the day. Don't know why...Tonka is a late bloomer but I can't pass it up either.

I'll be somewhere in Itasca county slinging all the winter purchases at least once. That'll account for at least a dozen casts. First one, though, will probably be the "Double Deep Musky Treat".

I'm looking at the countdown clock as I type this.....can't wait!

The new bucktail set up will be rigged with a smaller sized lure, another with a topwater of some sort...depending on water conditions that will dictate the appropriate noise/splash/side to side desired effect.

I'll likely have a glide bait on call, and I'll probably rig my heavier bass stick up with a 5/8 oz jig 'n' pig presentation.

All I need is the fish to cooperate! grin.gif

One more thing......I even had to change my avatar, I can't keep on living off last year's glory and last year's fish!!! smile.gif

Here's to all of you and the chase for that first fish of 2006!! Treat her carefully and let her grow!

24 days, 7+ hours seems like an eternity!

breath deep..... slowly..... we can all do this if we work together

24 days, 7 hrs, 1 min's, and 51 sec's left until Opener!

see we're almost under that 7 hour mark..... and "they" say opener is this weekend......

oh ya mille lacs using one of my search and distroy bucktails. plans changed to my favor - i like that - the said bucktail may contain hints of red......

Tough call for me - the opener in WI is the Sat of Memorial Day weekend, so most of the lakes see more traffic than I care to deal with. Probably will fish one of the area rivers, quite possibly from shore. Lure wise I'll be slinger one of several French bladed, silicone skirted bucktails I made this past winter. Maybe a topwater after the sun sets wink.gif

You guys are going to drive yourself crazy thinking about it. I myself have fallen victim to the same affliction. The best thing is to manage it week by week. So look forward to the walleye opener which you probably don't care about. Then the bass opener. Before you know it it will be June. Do what I say but not what I do. I spent $300 at Thorne Bros on Sunday. Oh well

That's a tough call, I picked up so many not-sold-in-stores (custom) baits over the winter that even as I sit here thinking about it, it's making my cranium hurt. Thinking the lil'hoodini I just got or the Timberwolve I recieved a couple weeks back. Heck it may even be the old standbye bucktail. I decided to check out this longer rod craze and picked up a St.Croix Premier 7'6" Heavy/Fast last week, so I'm guessing the first choice will be a glider. Can't let the new rod ust sit there.
