Ralph Wiggum
Does anyone have one of these rods? I have a regular King Kat, but not the Pro. Anyhow, they're pretty darn cheap right now, and I am debating between one of them and a Reflex. Both 8' MH casting rods. Looking for any opinions. Is the blank on the Pro white? It's hard to tell from their online photo.
Deitz Dittrich
RW-I worked Cabelas in Rogers last weekend with the idea that I was going to buy one of these king Cat pro rods... They didn't have any in stock or have had any for quite some time I was told. I ended up getting the 9'MH King Cat rod.
Ralph Wiggum
Doesn't that suck, Deitz??? I went to check one out last night. I've resigned myself to ordering, but I wanted to hear from someone who's handled one. I know I like the Reflexes, but if I can save a few buck with the King Kat Pro, why not? hanson
Briank has a KingKat Pro. The blank it blue I believe, or blue & tan.Your going to have a hard time finding a Reflex anywhere.
jtk15
I have the king kat pro 10ft, and also an $80ish Fenwick 9ft. I would take teh king kat pro in a heartbeat over the Fenwick--I do like the Fenwick's foam over cork for catfishing, but the rod itself is very function, in my opinion better than the Fenwick-much more action (good) and less backbone (bad) -but their are many variables as to that.I would not hesitate to buy one myself.jk
Guest
I just got back from Cabelas and they didnt have any pro's in.. that place(rogers) has become worthless too. The only rod they had that would really make a good flathead rod was a Diawa Sealine stand up rod that was rated at 30-100# test line... but, I dropping $70+ on a rod just because its the ONLY one on hand suitable for a fishing situation? No Thanks.. I'll give someone else my business.
Ralph Wiggum
TG, they had two Tigers when I was there yesterday. A little short for shorefishing, though. Also, they had some 9 foot Whuppin' Stick Magnums in the Bargain Cave that looked like they'd handle anything. I agree on Cabela's worthlessness as of late, though. I had a 6500C3 on backorder for almost a month in April.
harvey lee
I have a King Kat Pro that I bought for the Sturgeon Excursion and it handled a 52 incher real well.Seems to be a pretty good stick.
Dennis Steele
I have one of the 7ft heavy KK Pro's with a winch on it for fishing the snags or dinking and dunking. Its nice and light and has great backbone. Its not quite as heavy as my Ugly Tiger stick, but will do the trick in tight quarters. At a third the price its well worth it.Can't really give my opinion on the longer rods as I don't have any from Cabela's.I still am quite happy with Cabela's. Of course I do buy most of my stuff on line. I can spend less on shipping than it takes in gas to get to the store. Plus they usually have what I want in stock, or I know when it will be restocked.Still kind of tough to buy rods online. Just can't feel for the action your looking for. nitefisher
hey ralph have you ever tried the contender shakespeare i have a 6 foot with back bone that takes up to 100lb test. i got it at the bait shop at laqeparl dam down by granite falls for 50 bucks when i got mine it already had 50lb test on it. it's like a crane makes them 20 and 30lb cats come in like theres nothing there. by the way i was out fishing on the chippewa river north of benson mn and got 4 cats today 3 were about 6lbs 1 was about 4lbs my wife is working on getting some pic's up for all to see. i love the contender shakespeare though for my choice but i have'nt tried to many others though either. Ralph Wiggum
Thanks, guys. For $20, it sounds like it'll be a fine channel cat rod.Nitefisher, I've never tried a Contender rod. I think 6' is too short for my taste, though. And I was thinking for more of a channel cat rod, not a broomstick. Thanks for the heads up, though. mplspug
I'll second that Ralph. I got a 6.5' rod and I wish I had gotten at least a 7.5 - 8.

NorthWoodsGuy
Based on the positive feedback on this thread about the KKP, I just ordered 2 from Cabelas - an 8' and a 9'. I've never fished with a 9' rod before but for $20 I'm willing to see how it works. Thanks guys!
Ralph Wiggum
9 footers are awesome. You'll like it if you have to cast distances.
