Lindy rigging with floating plugs

Recommended Posts

Just curious if anybody has ever tried dragging plugs behind some weight. I purchased some egg sinkers for this and im gonna give it a try. I think if your fishing on sand or gravel flats that this could work well for walleyes.

This is best accomplished using a three way rig. Your main line goes to the three way and then you have any where from 1 ounce to 3 ounces of weight for a dropper and then you run about a 3 foot leader to your stick bait.

I've had my best luck with this presentation in rivers.

I tried floating a rapala behind a bottom bouncer and found out it worked like a charm. I had located walleyes and was taking them on a spinner and minnow, and decided to try something different just to see if it would work. The action of a floating rap may be better than a deep diver, or maybe the bottom bouncer just gets the lure down to where you want it. The conditions: 12-20' of dark water, with no more than a 3' leader trolled at 45 degrees, so it's only about 15' behind the boat. I think it would work most everywhere, but in a clear lake like Mille Lacs you might need more leader and fluorocarbon line.

I have had good luck using the 3 way rig (2-5oz)(18-24in drop sinker) with 4-5ft leader pulling jointed floating raps and Bombers. These baits don’t dive that deep (6-7 ft with 80 ft out) so the 3 way rig gets it down to where the fish are unless of coarse the fish are shallow then there is no need. Also if the fish are shallow and you are fishing clear water I recommend using an in-line planer boards to get the baits away from the boat.

Hope this helps smile.gif
