Some bass pics from this weekend in Iowa

Brent and I with 2 bass over 4 lbs. Caught from a small pond/water collection site by a bridge.

Each of my three kids (9,8,6) caught bass over 3 lbs. Danielle's birthday was Sunday and on Tuesday when we caught all these she was catching bass for the first time on a texas rigged weightless senko and she caught a couple over 5lbs. Awesome trip. Little ponds sure can produce.

I gather from the replies that weight is doubted! :-)

had an old rapala spring scale that i used. so yes i suppose the weight could be in doubt but in the general vicinity is likely. pictures are notoriously hard to gauge. these had big sow bellies that were stuffed full. I have caught 7lbers and my personal best a 9.5 lb bass in florida. Regardless, it was a good weekend of catching bass and watching my kids reel in big fat bass. Unfortunately i did not have anything to measure with.

smallie was in reference to his name not that it was a smallmouth.

Also I'm not sure why the pics were removed. The fish were alive in the pics. I try to cpr all the big bass we catch. These were from private farm ponds and we moved some of them in tanks to another one of our unstocked farm ponds. Oh well :-(

After looking at the policy I guess the objection was due to not being in the natural environment. If it isn't appropriate to discuss this here moderators, just let me know. I'm not sure how it is different showing pics of the fish after i lifted them out of the transport tank compared with people taking pics of bass coming out of their live well? I'll have to get better pics in the future i guess.

If a person isn't sure that a scale is working properly, I've both weighed and measured quite a few bass over the last couple years. 19" is 4 lb ish, 20" 5 lbs, 21" 6lbs. This applies to healthy and chunky bass only. Skinny mid-summer or spawned out fish will alter those weight and length generalizations.

Just for reference... the largie in that photo was 20.9" and 6 pounds 9.5 oz on a certified scale... And yes it was released immediately. Pictures are tough to guage, I agree. But, measured lengths generally don't lie.....(if measured correctly). Scales on the other hand.... leave something to be desired.. The newer digitals seem to work pretty well though.

The length/weight regression Duffman brought up is a good general rule, but be wary without the girth measurment. The relative plumpness of a fish can vary considerably over the course of a year.... But we obviously all know that! smirk.gifwink.gifgrin.gif
