Opener tactics

Recommended Posts

Water temps seem to be a few degrees warmer this year so for the opener I think I'll try starting with casting cranks in the shallower warmer water. If that doesn't work I'll switch to jigs with minnows. What's everyone else thinking of?

I will fish jigs if the wind is not to bad on winnie. The only thing I will do different is that I will go a liitle faster. I find that a good rip will get the agressive ones to hit. That said for sure the wind will be at least 25 MPH or more. If that is the case I will go to a smaller lake and go with lindy rigs. The one new thing I will try this year is to use Fluorocarbon tippett made by Frogg Hair. The diameter is a couple Thousandths smaller and is very limp.

I'm going to start out with the good 'ol jig and minnow combo. If I find them, I'm going to switch to the plastics I've bought and see how that goes; maybe build up a little confidence. Jig/minnow, jig/leech, or if I need to, hook on a snell and livebait with it. If the live bait options fail, I'll just go plastic and cast everywhere! smile.gif

Wow,

Full Moon weekend! Warmer than normal water! Heck, it might not matter. Let's hope for 65 degree air, cloudy & 8 mph NW wind. Start with jig-N-minnow, then rig-W-something scaleless & then slip-em! That is if your starting at daybreak!

I personally have a late start because of kids in soccer.

Let's hammer em'

Hello, Im new to the forum. I just want say that its pretty cool to have found a place to talk just fishing with people that have similer interests.

Ill start pitching jigs and cranks in the shallows early then switch to pulling plugs and spinners.

I've always had the best luck Lindy Rigging with shiners in the day and pulling Raps at night. This year I might try something new. Slip bobbing with shiners on the edges of some isolated cabbage beds. I've never tried it but it may just work, who knows.

crawler/spinner/bottom bouncer.....cheap and dirty technique that never lets me down...even if they are lethargic, you always get some that hit simply out of reaction as the spinner is flying by them...can't wait!!!

Ill be doing a lot of Jigging and then Ill pull some bouncers/spinners and then I may toss some cranks/sticks. 1st couple days I wont have to move much. Drop anchor jig until they slow down then let out 10' of anchor rope and start over. When that slows pick up 10' and go back at it. Rivers are fun that way and man do I save the gas. grin.gif
