Pontoon Boat Carpet Removal ??

Fisheyes925

Question

I need to rip up the old carpeting on a pontoon boat. Whats the best way to remove the old glue before applying new. Is there a special adhesive remover that I need to use? Id appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I just helped a friend do his pontoon boat! tongue.gif Lots of work!

Removing the carpet was made easier by using a carpet knife to cut the carpet into strips that were around 1 foot wide, then grabbing one end of the strip and ripping it off of the deck.

We used putty knifes to remove the old glue and also a belt sander with a very course grit. The belt sander was the quickest method.

We did not try the heat gun though as we did all of this indoors. I suspect that the heat would have made the scraping a LOT easier! tongue.gif

I did this last year. I ended up taking the furniture off and replacing the plywood too. The wood turned out to be in pretty tough shape. Replacing the wood was very easy. If I had to do it again,I wouldn't even try to pull the carpet from the wood. I would replace it all.
