Tilt Trim Switch

stmichael

Question

I would like to put a tilt/trim switch at the back of the boat, currently I have to run back and forth to the throttle. To get the transon saver on and off the motor. This is getting to be a pain in the A$$. I was wondering if there is a product that can toggle both ways and be installed on the motor,or, Would I be better off attaching it to the boat? (Maybe the inside of the transom, somewhere within reach)

A few guesses as to what I need please add more if necessary.

- Weather resistant 3 way toggle switch...(do they make them where the toggle automatically returns to center?)I suppose a couple of push buttons? Just drilling another hole.

- Wire approximately same gauge currently on the t/t motor.

- Weather resistant butt splices.

My main worry is that I am over looking something here and I really do not want to mess up the t/t motor.

Actually it's a very easy setup to make, I would attach it to boat, so you don't mess with motor housing.

You need a Temp On/Off/On toggle switch (the ones that return to middle by itself), and 3 wires.

Open your motor cowl (hood) follow main harness from remote, there are 3 wires (red, blue, green) connected to trim solenoids.

You can tap into connectors or solenoids.

Red is positive, blue is UP, and green is DOWN. Connect red to middle terminal on switch, blue to upper terminal, and green to lower.

Position switch wherever you prefer.

That's it. Sounds tough to explain but very easy to do.

My tilt trim switch has 3 wires that run to it,a hot and two to carry the elec. to the relay, one for up the other for down, the switch is a rocker switch, center off, tip one way on, tip other way on, go back to the relay, get another rocker switch with the same off, on, on pattern, find the wires tht go up front to the rocker switch, splice this switch into the wires that go up to the front rocker switch, now you can run the trim, tilt from either place. Maybe Val has more expertice in this, and will chime in. I put my post on and found out Val already had your answer for you.

Thanks Haywardbound,

I will be calling Hallberg Marine to see if they have it and how much it is. I will be going the cheaper route smirk.gif, looking into more tackle smile.gif. Either way will be just fine, as long as it gets done cool.gif.

Thanks guys, I drove up to Rapid on Friday to see what they had, The guy there showed me a momemtary switch (toggle) I went with that, 9 bucks with wire. I had a mishap and wired everything to the switch after the fuse box, and that must have been a bad thing, melted my wires, oops blush.gif. I rewired using the wires in line with the controls on the handle, works like a charm. smile.gif
