Reel Selection

I am using Bantam Curados which are always a great choice. I have also had good luck with the New President from Pflueger. The quailty of equipment that they are putting out has really increased. Curado is now $200 and President I think is around $130.

Medium Light? What tactics will you be using it for? thats may be a little light for bass unless you are using it for a finesse setup. I would imagine this is a Spinning. Shimano makes some nice spinning reels, Ive also thought the cardinal series by abu garcia where really nice.

I just bought me one of the new Shimano Curado that runs for 199 as well as a Quantum tour baitcaster that runs for 229. Great reels i tell you... The Quantum tour is super smooth as for the curado, not as smooth but works great as well... I highly reccommend both of them. I could not decide on which one, so i ended up buying both...

I like the new Catalyst PTi-A spinning reels from Quantum. Not overly expensive, and you get a lot of bang for your buck. A very smooth and durable reel. The bail is made of titanium and you can bend it as much as you want but it will just form right back into place.

And for a casting reel I've become fond of the Quantum Accurist PT. It's a very quick reel that rides smooth. A great reel for flippin or pitching plastics, as well as speedin cranks and spinner-baits. And it happens to look pretty rad too grin.gif I plan on rigging up a few rods with the Accurist PT this upcoming season.

I'm also a fan of the old stand-by Shimano Sedona or Symetre for a spinning reel. Both are priced just right and perform well for a variety of conditions/techniques.

I will go with the Quantum. The Catalyst with 8 bearings is great. If you want to save a little cash and still have all the same features as the Catalyst, take a look at the Kinetic. This has 6 bearings but all the other good stuff...for 80 dollars. No matter which reel you go with, I would suggest that you take the rod to the store with you and see how the reels feel on the stick. Do they compliment the rod, are there any pinch-points, does you hand feel comfortable with the combo? It's worth the extra hassle.

"And it happens to look pretty rad too " --- Matt, you are a pretty rad looking guy so I wouldn't expect anything less wink.giflaugh.gif

Seriously though it has been said earlier and I'll say it again, I do like the Shimano Curado's. I do have a few of the older versions and if you can get one (which I believe there are still some floating around, you just have to dig a little bit) you can get one of those in your hands for a good bargain.

I was talking to Dietz at the last promo Cabela's had at their new Roger's store and he said the new Cruixis Shimano reel will be hard to beat as well. Basically it is similar to the older Curado but with better parts!

Can't go wrong with either choice in my book. Great reels in the $100-120.00 price point.

I like the new Quantum Energy PTi reels. I have Kenetics and catalysts both are good reels and have had no problems.

The Energy's look great and feel great on my ST.Croix Premier and Tournament Series rods.

I also have a Shimano 2500 MGFA it's ok. Best feature there is it is light. Other then that just another reel.
