Havin' Fun
So I assume I'm screwed, but my trolling motor was only running on high gear this morning, and an hour later is quit. It turns and I hear the "click" inside to start, but it doesn't run. Any ideas??
0 FRESHWATER PETIE
Was your battery drained? Did you fully charge your battery this spring? Check both connections, for loose wire or bad contact.
0 Surface Tension
Tiller of foot control?
0 Havin' Fun
Clarification.....1. Foot control(brand new foot control which works fine)2. The motor was running on high no matter how I set the speed control. Than it just quite running after about an hour of somewhat use. I hear the click when I push the pedal, but nothing. It does still turn left and right.3. Full battery and all terminals are rock solid.
0 katoguy
PD/AP? If yes, I'd tend to think lower unit or control board. If under warranty take it in. If not, take off the control box cover and hook 12 volts directly to the brush leads. If the prop spins, then you probably have a main board issue. If the prop doesn't spin, then you have a lower unit issue. (brush not making contact, water intrusion, etc...)
0 JWB475
I had issues with my new 24 volt powerdrive last year, here was what happened to me:When I would turn the motor up to high speed, after a few seconds of use, it would suddenly quit working, and make the same clicking noise. I don't remember if I could still turn it left and right though when this would happen. It turned out that the fuses on the wire leads to the battery were undersized and kept blowing (they were the auto reset variety), I would check those as before I take the motor back (which I almost did as well), that might be the ticket for your problem.. 0 Havin' Fun
Got it narrowed down to the main board. Ie. it ran off 12 volts. New board from Minnkota is 116.00. Anyone every replace one of these. The dealer here said 160.00 plus labor and trouble shooting which I tried to tell him I have narrowed down already. Including the rep from Minnkota. Any thoughts on installing one of these especially since it's a no return policy?
0 Gus
If the dealer can do it I'm sure you can. Sounds like you have talked to Minkota about the problem, maybe they can give you some hints or tips. If not, it's just a part. The old one goes out, the new one goes in.
0 Havin' Fun
I agree. Maybe the dealer and Minkota want to scare you so you will spend your money at the dealers. It's 4 or 5 wires I have to change and they are all different colors. pretty simple if you ask me.
0 Havin' Fun
Just wanted to inform those of you interested in replacing your main board in your trolling motor: That this is well worth your time and not difficult assuming you can crimp, cut and than plug wires in according to their colors. In otherwords, if you can tie your shoes...you can do it!
