Thinking of going to Eagle lake this summer for my very first Canadian fishing trip. There are many resorts on the lake. I'm looking for feedback on which resort to stay at, quality of boats, best guides, best shore lunch, what would make this the trip of a lifetime?

Walleye, Out of curiousity, why Eagle?? You are right, there are a LOT of resorts out there, that isn't necessarily a good thing. There is much better water to fish up there, famous lakes such as Lac Seul and LOTW take Eagle to shame anyday, and MANY MANY small lakes right in that area that do as well. If you are really set on Eagle, check out Andy Meyers Lodge, if you want some other suggestions ...let me know

I agree with what Brian is saying. Eagle Lake is not the place to go if you are looking to catch fish one after the other, such as some people expect when going on a Canadian fishing trip. I have been to Eagle Lake many years and do enjoy it. If you are planning a Walleye trip I would try to go as early in June as possible. The fish will be stacked up in the bays yet.

As far as resorts go, Pine Beach Lodge is an excellent choice. Rick & Helen do a good job. The resort is very friendly so your fishing reports will come first hand from the other guests. Also, Rick cleans all the fish for the guests, so he knows who did well and where.

I'm going to Lac Seul for the first time this year, needless to say, I can't wait.

Hope this helps - Jason

I have thought about lac suel and LOTW, I like the challenge of finding the fish, and then getting them to bite. I have had friends go to Eagle and they were sucessful every time they went. I guess that is why I want to try Eagle. The lake intregue's me with all of the islands and bays, lots of water to fish. And laying into some big smallie's doesn't hurt either:)

Just from talking to guys, it seems like for every success story at Eagle there are 2-3 other stories of really slow fishing trips. It if often attributed to bad weather, time of year, and other such things...There are definetely some nice sized fish on Eagle..big eyes, gigantic muskies...The ban on night fishing is a big downer though...

It's an intriguing lake, a lke which some figure out better then others, but there is a reason why some people call it "The Dead Sea" in town

Brian, the night fishing ban is a bummer I love night fishing, but remember Mille Lacs has a ban early in the year too. It too was also refered as the dead sea, and it wasn't all that long ago. Night fishing bans and slot limits only serve to help a fishery C&R does that too. I have some personal rules in my own boat that I like to follow, I don't like to keep eye's over 18" they go back. I have not seriously fished for musky's ever, but if I hooked a 48+ I certainly would snap a picture of it and let her go.

Unfortunatly we can't control the weather, but if you're at a good resort with good guides they will do everything they can to put you on fish. And make sure you have good rain gear along.

A few years ago I went marlin fishing in Mexico we saw at least 15 fish had one bite but didn't get a clean hookup and lost the fish ( and it was my turn in the chair), but I won't soon forget the trip.

I enjoy catching as much as the next person, but sometimes what makes a trip of a lifetime is not always if you caught more fish or bigger fish then the next guy but did you learn something new?

Will it help you become a better fisherman? and did you enjoy yourself and the people you were with?

I guess that means as much or more to me then limiting out every time I go out.

Bill

I'm rentint out someone's private Cabin on Eagle in June. Although I will be bringing the boat and bouncing around to other lakes, I am going to give Eagle another try at least for a couple days to try and get a BIG musky

Walleye: Nothing against Eagle Lake, but most likely you'll do more fishing than catching. It's tough lake and can take a while to figure out unless you hire a guide. if you drive another 60-90 minutes you will be fishing Lac Seul where the chances of catching a good bite are much better.

we have fished Eagle Lake and it does have its moments. I liked Sportsman's Lodge on the West Arm near Vermillion Bay, ON. It is very reasonably priced and the owners are good country folks who are very willing to help you out.

Keep this in mind. Eagle has very clear water and that means early and late fishing. I would think June would be a good time. We fished in mid-july and the fish were deeper and we had very tough luck during the day. We did respectable at low light periods but that can take a toll on a guy who is on vacation.

I know people who have done very well. But it can be spotty. No offense but I if I am going to that kind of traveling I want to put in time finding new spots that produce.

Good Luck

I grew up fishing Tenmile lake in Cass County. So fishing clear water is not something I am afraid of. Low light conditions or cloudy days are best.

I am going to get a guide at least for the first day.

I was thinking about Fin and Feather on the north end.

The lake just interests me to no end, Lac Seul might have to be the next trip.
