pineyeye
Does anyone have any suggestions for me on where to put the traps and how to set it up or anything?
Cliff Wagenbach
Bait your trap with bread chunks or dried dog food,If trapping a stream, try to position the openings so that they face into the current and close to some kind of cover. On lakes or ponds position the traps close to weeds or other types of cover.Remember, you must have a tag on your trap that has your name and address on it!Cliff

EatSleepFish
isnt it illegal to trap minnows in streams? or is it only with designated trout streams?
Cliff Wagenbach
As far as I know it is only illegal to trap minnows in a trout stream. Unless you can get a DNR permit. ??Cliff
pathogen
The best lakes for trapping minnows are generally the small lakes where freezeout occurs regularly on the larger fish. Minnows usually can survive and you won't get as many (or any) small panfish in the trap. Always a pain sorting your minnows from little sunnies---it's bad enough getting the sticklebacks sorted out!! Of course, there are some very desireable species of minnows that you can only get in rivers and streams.
