JohnMickish
Whats up with the 26 car and McMurray? We all know the car and crewchief are solid, so is it chemistry between them or isn't McMurray as good as everyone thought?I'm beginning to think maybe the driver isn't as good as I thought. lawdog
I think McMurray is OK, but he's not a world beater. He ran top 15 in less than the best stuff out there though with Ganassi's cars the past couple years so he's no slouch.I think in a little time they'll get a lot better together. eyepatrol
From what I heard on SPEED, they're running completely different setups than when Busch was there. Not even using the notes from last year (or maybe it was just for this race?). There will be an adjustment time for certain, but you still would think that team would be doing better. I'd look for them to improve when they hit tracks a second time this year.
harvey lee
I think it takes team chemistry and also that he is a average driver.I dont ever see him being a champion.
heiman507
Both Saturday and Sunday they were talking to McMurray on Speed. He emphasized that they are starting from scratch. He made a big change moving from Dodge to Ford, the cars are very different and it will only be time before everything begins to "click". I don't see him winning a championship anytime soon, but the team will probably start making consistant top ten finishes after a little time. JohnMickish
The reason I'm not buying the "it takes time" deal is because McMurray went to a championship winning team and Busch (who made the same jump, only from Ford to Dodge) and went to a good but not great team is doing much better, and the majority of the people on this site say Busch has no talent. How long do you give a guy to build the chemistry?
lawdog
I don't know that anyone would say Busch has no talent, the guy can drive. He's just an obnoxious jerk that no one likes... By the way, Busch is only 50 points ahead of McMurray, its not like he's set the world on fire there yet either. As to McMurray, its only been five races and he's had a couple crashes in there that are just part of racing... They'll be fine when they get it figured out. By the way, it could well be that Busch likes a set-up that's closer to Rusty's whereas McMurray likes one a lot different too and that may be why you percieve they are farther along. There are just tons of factors involved there.
PikeBayCommanche
Everyone always knocks on Gordon for being this pretty boy yahoo or whatever but at least he can race. I was wondering the same thing about McMurray and his poor finishes this year. I don't think he is as good as everyone thought and bet that they wish they had Kurt back. JohnMickish
How long now before it's released that McMurray has been let go and Harvick is the driver for 2007?
wally20
McMurry likes to drive a tight car and Busch a loose car, They were try to get McMurry to change his style, not working!!This past weekend they switched crew cheifs around. Bob Osborne, Edwards cheif is now with McMurry, and Edwards cheif is now Wally Brown--former lead engineer. So will see what happens.
JohnMickish
Yep, they said they would re-evaluate in 90 days. I figure thats when Harvick gets the ride.
Sifty
I really think that HAVICK has to start driving better before he get's the offer to drive for others.Sifty
lawdog
I don't know Sifty, Harvick is a commodity for some reason and in all fairness he has run much better this year, he's even in the top ten in points right now...I still think he's the big fish Toyota is after though so I don't know that he'll be going to Rousch. JohnMickish
I find him a hard fit at Roush as well but the rumor mill keeps going about it. How would the die hard "E" fans that became Harvick fans by force feel about him driving a "Yoda"? I don't think that would sit to well and he would probably lose a large part of his fan base. I also hear (read actually) that Toyota might not want to foot the bill for his truck and Busch teams since they won't fit into the corporate scheme of things. lawdog
I don't know about that MnFish. Toyota I would think would love to have him in the Busch series too, he's awful tough there and his truck team is decent too. I was thinking picking all that up with him as a Cup driver might be a big selling point. I don't know that the Big E fans would be too much less disappointed of him driving a Ford than a Toyota, but I'm sure somewhat yes...Will be interesting to see what happens! JohnMickish
Yea, I guess I never thought about the Ford part of that. Those big E fans have alot more chevy orange in their blood than ford blue. I don't think there will be much done in silly season until Harvick's signature is dry on someones contract since he is really the only big player out there this year. It seems that Harvick would be the logical choice for Toyota since everyone else in the rumor mill or already commited is either a has been, wannabe or a wannabe hasbeen.
