That is an incredible story! Think long and hard if it were you, would you have done the same, and released the fish! These three gentleman are exactly what a sportman should be. THey not only admited it was foul hooked, but they also released the fish! Can you imagine what someone would have paid these guys to have that fish!! Hats off to them!

I wonder how many CO's will be there to watch out for foul play! With a million dollar bass swimming around, there will be lots of people after it whether they are fishermen or not.

No question those guys are true sportsman, no question that the bass would have legally met the guidelines for the record - even though it was foul-hooked, and no question they could have pursued that - and most likely been listed as the new record holder. I think its cool of them to act the way they did - but in my mind they caught the world record bass - it may not be listed in the record books - but they did it.

Noway possible it could be a state or world record. You still have to abide by state laws and correct me if I'm wrong, but California doesn't allow the taking of fish that are foul hooked (which makes this an illegal catch and not admissible). I applaude them for their honesty and true sportsmanship

Not trying to start any controversy here - but it stated in the news post that the state laws prevent them from pursuing a state record if the fish was purposefully foul-hooked. However, they did not purposefully foul hook the fish - it was foul-hooked in the act of attacking the bait. Therefore, it would have legally met the state guidelines. I think what they did was right - by releasing the fish and they will continue to pursue the record. My whole point was that in my mind they caught the record - whether it was listed in the books or not isnt important - and obviously not important to them either.
