I think we've clobbered to death every conceivable catfishing topic this winter already.

I'm ready to get out fishing and get some photos of success posted here!

BTW- Got a couple new In-Fish Cattin' DVDs coming in the mail soon! Yippee!! Catfish Fever & Day on the River! I think I may have to watch Big Cat Safari again tonight. grin.gif

Al just hooked into a monster James River blue! Awesome!

And I've fished the spot that was in the previous clip of the video on the Mississippi.

I sure didn't pull a flattie out like that one. grin.gif

Anyone know what dam that was that Hoffman & Lindner were setting up on for the evening flathead bite? I'm guessing Mississippi somewhere south of me. I haven't fished south of P3 so excuse me if its Red Wing. grin.gif

Hanson, can I check out these videos from the Chris Hanson Library? grin.gif

I'm ready to go. We got some action last week, and that has made me even more antsy. Oh well, we won't have to wait nearly as long as our walleye-chasing brethren, at least! smirk.gif

i never even thought of the bait store thing. the name has a good ring to it too. if i can figure out how to addd flavor to a bull head we might have something. i'll have to build a laboratory and start testing. you can check out the dvd whenever you want, give me a call. it will make your desires to hit the river go through the roof. call me when you have time. later.

Hey Rob, you happen to come up in the conversation all the time when Travis and I are out catfishin. I was just curious if you were going to break the 40lb mark this year on a flattie. grin.gif I fished a lot last year and never even broke the 6lb mark for a flattie while the others I fished with pulled out 35lb+ cats like it was nothin blush.gif!!

Hopefully we can all get together and do some cattin this summer on the river!!!!!!!!!

I've just gotta say that "Day on the River" by the In-Fish crew has been the best tutorial to Flathead Catfishing that I have ever watched! Awesome, awesome video!!

I think my favorite part was Doug Stange explaining why & how to use the baitclicker on your reel when he started to get a run. grin.gif He was pulling out line to show how the fish can take the line and the line kept going. shocked.gif "What's going on here," he says. "I think we got a bite." Sure enough, 37 pound flathead in the boat! grin.gif

Well I got a few rods ready. Didn't bother washing off the old dried bood or scales from baits long eaten. Just give the rod character!

Come saturday, I'll be pulling the RP out of the snow bank. Well I might not need to do that. SNow should be gone by saturday.

Then a good cleaning and I am ready to tangle with some cats!

Hey Hanson, I think that's the one where Stange is talking about using bullheads "up to 10"? I stopped and talked with a CO the other day...at one point I asked him if he would give a guy a ticket for using an over sized bullhead. He said no.

Dark-

Thats the one.

He actually said he was using a "bigger" bullhead, about 9 inches or so I believe. May have been a slip on his part but he said it very casually. The bullheads that I saw in the video were about 6 inchers.

Now here's another question. The bullhead part didn't concern me that much. However, keeping a 37lb flathead cat in a mesh decoy bag tied to the side of the boat so you can photograph it in the morning was a little more alarming to me. I know them cats can live forever and even live for awhile out of the water in a wet gunny sack so I can see where it would be OK. I was just a little taken back when I saw them do it. It was a surprise from a couple of huge proponents of safe handling of fish and C&R.

I am SO ready for summer

dtro .. you do realize you could be here catching fish within the time it takes to watch one of those video's dont you?

Summer will come, but if you wait for it, your missing half(the better half) of the season.

Heck.. I'll bet you a fishing trip I land at least 20 channels before you recieve your video!

In-Fish video...

The video you are talking about was made several years ago. If I recall correctly, it was Dirk that informed In-Fish that there was a 7 inch transport lenght limit.

Those guys have progressed over the years with more and better info too, just like all of us.

I doubt you'll hear them talking about fishing wintering cats and using the duck bag anylonger.

PS Dark, don't be asking the CO's about the lenght limit of bullheads...you're educating them! crazy.gif

Next time...just ask them how many you can transport alive. If they say none or 100....just say...Thank you! wink.gif

Just finished watching both of the DVD's I bought. Catfish fever II and Day on the River.

Anyone have a time machine to fast forward a couple of months?

Day on the river was very informative. Great learning video.

I'm ready to go exploring grin.gif

One thing I found suprising was the size of the baits used for the big blues down south. Some of those "cuts" were bigger than the size of my hand.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
