mesh mantles for lanterns

so haaad

Question

I thought that I remember seeing on here a year or two ago something about wire mesh mantles for propane lanterns that last a long, long time. Anybody know what I'm talking about? Anybody know where I can get them? I broke my third one of the year...

I tried this post a number of times since I thought I heard of them. I only got feedback on globes, so I quit trying. I cut over to a battery powered light since I was tired of messing with the lantern mantles. FYI.

Yup, I have used a mesh globe. They are unbreakable. They don't put out quite as much light as a glass globe but I never used it on High setting anyway. Paid about 10 bucks at sportsmans warehouse a few years back. It was made by Century not Coleman but it's the same size and works just fine on my coleman propane lantern. Since then, I've pretty much quit using propane for lights and gone LED but the mesh globes do work and hold up well. If you are talking about the actual mantels, I've never seen them nor looked for them.

I seem to break mantles and globes on my lantern each year, so now that I think about it I'm talking about both. I actually saw the wire mesh globes yesterday at Walmart; do they replace the glass globe or go over the glass like a sleeve? I would think they wouldn't work outside in windy conditions if it's just the mesh. I thought that I heard about wire mesh mantles too, but I've never seen them.

They do just replace the glass globe. To be honest, I've never used the mesh outside in the wind. I am always in my portable if it is windy. I have used it outside but not in the wind.
