The Limbsaver

hello everyone

i have seen on some hunting shows on tv that advertise a product called the limbsaver. the limbsaver is suppose to reduce recoil. i just bought a new savage 30-06 and sometimes when i fire the gun the scope hits me in the eye. it really hurts. i was wondering of the limbsaver would help me with this problem?? thanks for any advice!!!

HAte to burst your bubble, but the limbsaver is for archery. THey are meant to absorb limb shock in bows.

I"m not really sure about goo ways to avoid getting scoped in the eye, but I bet if you start a thread about that you will get more response.

Powerstroke you are incorrect. Limbsavers have been making recoil pads for at least a year. They make a few slip over recoil pads as well as pads to fit common rifles, and grind to fit pads as well. They work GREAT to reduce the recoil.

If you are getting scoped you may need to slide your scope further forward. Remember when looking through your scope you want to have a full view. usually that will easily give you enough eye distance so you will not get scoped. You may also not be tucking that rifle up to your shoulder tight enough, that could also allow you to get scoped.

Best bet would be to take that rifle and scope in to a gun dealer and have them look at how the scope is mounted when you pull it up to your shoulder. It is no fun to have that half moon above your eye

I would first suggestion doing what fishermann said, that appears to me to be the reason for getting that nasty bruise, and if that I dont work I checked SIMS and they themselves do not yet make one for your rifle at the moment but with enuf customer feedback(Urself and others) they will surely add your model in the near future of the line-up! I got one for an A-Bolt 300WSM that i have and its pure amazement the wonders that a new pad will produce! If your gun is the 110 Syn. model then I know that Pachmayr company makes one for your rifle. Best wishes to ya with the sexy scope ring mark, I know the ladies love em!!!

I stand corrected. I don't have a problem with recoil on my gun so I was unaware of such a product. I've never been "scoped" before but I've driven someone in for stitches before because of it. Hopefully you can find a solution.

Yesterday I tried the 30-06 I'm selling, and thought about you at first shot, but got over it quickly, I think you will have to have your scope checked. Did you buy a 10 series already setup with scope ? I bought a Savage .243 10 series and never had a problem, the Simmons 3x9 has a good eye relief and didn't give me any problem.

thanks everyone for the info. i just shot my gun a couple of days ago and i checked to make sure the gun is secure in my shoulder and that i am holding on the gun tighter and that seem to work! eric

eric, also try mounting your gun normaly and then pull your head back just a little and see if it changes the view in your scope. If it dosen't you can afford to get a little more eye relief by slideing the scope ahead a little.

Eric, depending on your options you might want to check with a gunsmith and a flash suppressor. I have a large (and famous) shop close by and they install them to reduce recoil considerably, but it's definitely an expensive option, I would work on scope placement and gun handling first.
