??? about hole size

I just read in a magazine that in north dakota the biggest a hole in the ice for angling yes angling not spearing is twelve inches. I was wondering if Minnesota has a similar rule to a hole restriction?

No, it can be as BIG as you want...I asked the dnr this question myself last year...

There isn't a Minnesota statute that regulates hole size for ice fishing that I have ever heard of.

I have not seen a reg. either but i was really curious when i read this because i use the "cloverleaf" as we call it when were are ice fishing and i was just hoping it was not illegal.

I drill 2 holes right next to each other for mine so I have an extra wide hole. I can see further down and I also leave the flasher transducer in the hole while im catching fish since i can just play the fish to the side withouth the cord.

i dont think there is a hole size restriction as long as you mark an extra large hole when you are done with it. I know spearers can fish out of their holes if they put the spear outside and then bring in the rods, because they can have rods in the house while they are spearing and vice versa.
