Portable fish house license

I REALLY wish that our ******* (insert your choice of cussword) lawmakers would revamp the laws with the fishhouses. My suggestions~~~ 1) make the tag viable for the continual ice fishing season (maybe from October 15th to May 15th). 2) lessen the cost of a tag for portables or eliminate fee altogether. 3) allow carrying of tag for portables in pocket. 4) eliminate need for marking ownership of portables.~~~ The original need for marking and posting tags on fish houses was to be able to track and record locations of said houses in the possibility of sinking, burning, abanoning, leaving out beyond season closure, liabilities, etc...! Surrounding states don't require tagging at all?!?!?! My beef with portables is that our amazingly over excised state has found a remarkable cash cow with all of the portables cruising around. I don't mind paying the money, but I feel that it is a whole different animal than the "permanent" structures and should be regulated differently. Time for a change! P.S-I do feel that if a "portable" is unattended (left on a lake to be fished in the same manner that one would treat a framed "permanent") should follow the current guidelines.

P.P.S-At one time, spitting on the sidewalk and tying your horse up properly were also (and probably still are) laws, but they are antiquated. Come on, let's go here!

Theoretically, sure. Legally, don't think so. I'm pretty sure they would 'encourage' you to purchase two tags. I just purchase a replacement tag for $2.50 and leave one up north and one in the cities. I know I would forget it at some point in the season. One tag technically is licensing both of my portables but I am not going to buy two at full price and I like not having to ever transport a portable. Sorta cheating but I couldn't agree with Wells more. In the grand scheme of things paying full price on two tags isn't that big of a deal but what the heck. I prefer to save myself 10 bucks.

FYI i did find a great tag holder at KMART in the sporting goods section it is a heavy duty pouch with a ziploc top and a big safty pin onit and will set you back $.99 just the right size for the tag. hope this helps all of you out for the new non adheasive tags. it is really a nice little thing to have and priced right.

according to the local CO in the Prior lake paper two weeks ago, anyone can have an ice house on the lake without a license, however, if there are fishing lines in the water, in the house, you would need the license on the outside of the house. Some high schoolers built a party shack on the lake, and there was no license or identifictation on the outside of it. as long as you are not fishing in it, no need for it to be licensed. SO, buy one license and take it back and forth.....make sure you keep both parts of it together........

This is correct.

The liscense is only required during use for fishing.

Also keep this in mind...

If you are fishing outside of your shelter, the shelter still needs to be liscensed. Even if you only use it to warm up.

Now, if you are NOT fishing (i.e. ice skating, etc.) and use a shelter to warm up, it does not need the liscense.

I agree that it is very annoying to have to pay a license fee for a portable house, but I also look at it as...

1. I have to license my car (yes a car, a poor poor fisherman, haha)

2. I have to license my boat to go fishing (which is towed by a licensed car and operated by a licensed fisherman) (that’s a triple fee!)

4. Then you have to license the trailer, which is pulled by a licensed car, holding a licensed boat, operated by a licensed driver and fisherman.

We pay fees for just about everything that is entertaining

So I just figure it into the deal, if I don't pay a fee I feel like something is wrong! Probably a pretty bad analogy, but that is what society has done. Just my two pennies, that are probably only worth one. LOL. Its cold out guys, lets stick by the old saying "Shut up and Fish".

Hope you all get a kick out of my thinking, because I do lol.

Great Anaolgy!!! I had all those questions when I decided to come across the River to do a little fishing. I know in 'Sconie' we dont have to license our shacks, but the law makers are coming around and the word is they want to follow suit with Minnesota. Darn Dems and DFL'rs.. lol I dont like it, but I like to fish too much to not.... wink.gif

I will be out Monday On south Center in my portable YUKON FT with the BIG G spending my $12.50 to fish!! LOL

Good Fishing all

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
    • Or he could go with leech~~~~~
    • Bear can relate too. Tell Leech to start a new account named Leech5, we'll know who he is.If he has any trouble, Bear can walk him through it.
