carlcmc
the motor blew on a pontoon boat i bought this spring. it is a 77 20' pontoon boat. the motor was a 77 55hp johnson seahorse. the crankshaft and connecting rods broke. I'm thinking of replacing it with a new 40 hp mercury or johnson. Any input?
0 kslipsinker
Go with a 40 Merc 4 stroke Big Foot for a pontoon.
0 Northlander
Go 4 stroke whatever you get. For all the slow moving a pontoon usually does it will save gas and be quiet. No more yelling over the motor.
0 gilby
I baught a Johnson 40hp 4 stroke EFI for my boat this spring and do not regret buying it.Runs very quiet at idleing speed and what I like about it is it does not make my boat vibrate. The performance of this motor out performs my old two stroke hands down.
0 Scoot
I'd think about a Yammy or Suzi. But, there's a lot of good 4 strokes out now. You'll hear very few complaints about both of the two motors I mentioned.------------------ScootRodsbyEngel: custom made fishing rods
0 Tom Wilson
If you are not looking for a four stroke then just a little FYI--All new Mercury motors 40 horsepower and less are made by Yamaha. I bought a brand new Mercuha 25 horse last fall for the duck boat, and it is a wonderful motor.
0 marine_man
I agree with kslipsinker... if you can, get a high thrust or 'bigfoot' model for your pontoon... you'll be getting added thrust which is a lot more noticeable on a pontoon... they do this by using the same powerhead and midsection, but the lower unit is geared differently and, consiquently, is larger.marine_man
