Hole shot vs. Prop pitch

Boedigheimer

Question

HELP! My boat is a pig out the hole. My gas tank is in the front of the boat(36 gal.), and if full can really hinder me getting on plane, much less with three people on board.

I have a 90hp tiller.

Do I need a hydro-fin?

Would a different pitch on my prop help?

I have a stainless steel prop, would an aluminum perform better?

I would gladly sacrifice top speed for a faster hole shot.

I'm sure you'll get more specific info from others but all things being equal a lower pitch prop will probably help. If you go that way make sure you don't end up turning the motor at too high rpm's during WOT.

I am sure 1 or maybe 2 pitch lower will accomodate your needs.

I would say just . What is your max RPMs now ? We can help you indicating what to do, but you will have to "seek professional help" from some dealer or prop shop.

I think Northlander knows a very good one, he'll pitch in here soon.

Give us all the details on your boat and I will check into it. Better yet e-mail me all the details and I will mail you what I find out or a guy to call.

Will need, boat size and make , motor type and size, size and pitch of prop running now, type of prop, Rpms at top end, top end speed now.

One thing I know is weight distribution plays a huge role in getting a boat on plane. Experiment a bit with heavy stuff in front, middle and back and see what seems to work best.
