Jiffy auger carb settings

My ten year old Jiffy is acting up. Meaning it runs poorly and I have to hit the primer while running it to keep it from killing. Then after it warms, I have to run it on half choke.

First I will do, today - I promise, is to replace the original spark plug.

But this auger has always been reluctant to hit its high rpms. I think the carb needs tweaking. What is a good starting point for carb settings and there are two screws for carb settings. One is shrouded, the other is not. My assumption is one is idle and the other is full throttle carb setting.

Can anyone help this mechanically challenged ice angler?

You need a diaphram, they are cheap and easy to install any small engine dealer will have them.

My Jiffy exhibited the same problems, turned out that I did not even need to replace the diaphram, just take the cover off and break it loose. It was stuck and was not pumping enough fuel to allow easy starting and full speed operation.

4 small screws, 5 minutes and you are back in business.....

I was looking for the same information and received the following: The 2hp and 3hp Tecumseh engine for the Jiffy's usually use the same "base" settings for the set screws. Turn them clockwise gently to seat them both. Gently is the key, as you don't want to ruin the seat. Turn the right one (farthest from the engine) 3/4s turn counter clockwise. This is the one for fast speed. Turn the left one (the one closest to the engine) 1 full turn counter clockwise. The engine should start and run now. The right one is for full throttle speed, and can only be adjusted under load. If it bogs down while cutting, let up on the throttle, turn 1/8 turn counterclockwise, then retry. Do the same thing with the left one at idle speeds when the engine is warm. Turn a very little at a time until the engine "sounds" to be idling optimally. This should help you get her running nicely. If it's still running "bad" try replacing the diaphragm on the carb.

Are these screw located on "all" Jiffy Ice augers, I understand the base settings...but I don't know if mine even has the tuning screws, I was once told it didn't. It was purchsed 3-5 years ago and is the older yellow model before the stealth's came out. any help would be great.

icefishingdude you might have an auger with a non adjustable carb. You can tell these because they have little silver caps over the screws so you can't actually see the screws. They EPA were requiring them to do this in the time period you mentioned. It made for a pain in the butt. I know when I worked at a motor shop we did replace some of these carbs with adjustable. I am not sure if it was covered by warrenty or not. I would call the nearest service center and tell them about your deal. Also have the serial number off the motor so that they can look up the year and other info. Now they have a somewhat adjustable carb but they have the little red limiter caps one them so there is more adjustment flexibility now. Good Luck

Just kidding. Carb diaphram. Explain to me please what cover to take off. Is it under the fuel tank? I may be obvious if I was looking at my auger but I'm at work and don't have here. Or are you talking about the air filter cover?

You may need a new Needle and Seat...very easy to replace. I think the cover mentioned earlier is at the bottom of the carb, it has 4 screws one on each corner. Cost is about $5.00.

If I recall, J. is correct, low on the carb someplace. It is about 1" to 1.5" square. One of my buddies has a Jiffy too and his is behind his gas tank or a shroud of some sort. Mine is out in the open.
