Nils Master Auger Great conclusion

The original auger JP sent me was not operating the way I was expecting and had heard about. JP thought that it was an engine break-in problem. Went ahead and broke engine in better and it did start cutting , however when the ice got to about 6 to 8 inches it was back to not cutting. JP sent new old style cutting head, and wow did that thing cut now. But wait a minute, it started jumping all over the ice and bogging down again after cutting only about 75 holes. JP and I finally came to the conclusion that we may have a bent chute as this thing always had a slight wobble. I took the chute off and checked chute like you check a pool cue and yes it was not straight. Got the new chute today. Took it to lake and drilled. No more wobble, and it cuts with the new style cutting head like I have never seen. You pull the trigger and it is through the ice so damm fast it's unbelievable. Conclusion is simple. I am glad I waded through the problems to get this thing resolved, as I now have the auger that everyone has been discribing. Super light , fast , easy starting, and did I mention fast and light. LOL Thanks to JP and Rick for getting this thing right... Doug BTW--- NILS MASTER AUGER ROCKS !!!!

Also thought I would let folks know that the original box did have a small dent and we are assuming this chute got bent in shipping and not a manufactor problem..

tightlines, I finally received my Nils auger and have a question for you. I have not had it on the ice yet, but when I assembled it, I can not get the auger bit to tighten up perfectly straight. When it's running there is a slight wobble. Seems to be some play in the part that the bit is mounted in and when I tighten the bolt and nut it tweeks just a little off center, if that makes sense. I will be trying it out tomorrow on Mille Lacs to see how it cuts. Also, mine does not have the center point everyone was talking about. Almost looks like it was ground off and repainted, but I haven't seen a Nils before to know what it should look like.Hopefully, I will be pleased with my purchase. Let you know after Saturday.

I've got a couple of buddies with the Nils. Fantastic cutter when the motor is running well. The problem they are having is keeping the motor in running condition. They've had it in the shop as much as on the ice. We'll be fishing together this weekend. I'll be interested if they got the "bugs" worked out.

Glad to hear you got your issues resolved! After hearing about your initial experiences, I decided to go with a Strikemaster. I'm pleased so far. Busted the plastic gas cap on the first outing. Oh well, I could have worse problems.

Yep. You could have got a Strikemaster with one of the old metal gas caps. Yuck! I went through 2 or 3 of those per season. They had o-ring problems, leakage problems, and I bent mine a few times. The new plastic caps are slick though. Going on season 2 with the plastic gas cap and no issues yet.

Have fun with your Nils tightlines. I will get one some day. I've had the opportunity to use them many times and have been impressed.

I think it is going to be a fun auger. I was impressed with it when it worked for a while with the standard cutting blade. I am super impressed with the new power point blade. For some reason that thing seems twice as fast, and the standard one was FAST!!

I'm real close to obtaining a Nils, but am curious where I might be able to try one. I know there are some events here and there, but wanted to see if there is some kind of schedule of events or where I might find one to try out.

Thanks for the help!

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
    • Or he could go with leech~~~~~
