You can just run the one hose on one side. Last year when they were having problems they recommend you buy the quick connect RV hose and that was suppose to solve the problem. But it didn't then so I have that style of hose on mine. But most everyone else is using the regular style hose on just one side. I don't think you need to have a 1lb on the otherside either. Maybe someone else knows this answer for sure.

You can use the hose on either side. I checked the manual to confirm, it doesn't mention one over the other either. I chose the one on the right because the RV quick connect fitting is on this side. It just made sense that since the quick connect was on the right why not use the hose on the right also. You do not need to have anything on the other side either, while using the hose.

Note: If you use the RV quick connect the hose needs to be regulated at 11" W.C.

Both sides of the Big Buddy are regulated. The RV Quick connect is not regulated. If you use the RV quick connect the hose has to have an 11" W.C. regulator. If its really cold it is recommended that you use the Rv quick connect because it ony requires 11" WC instead of the built in regulator that use the 20" WC. (its harder for propane to evap and keep up pressure the colder it gets)

I bought a filter to use but will only be using it for the first time today. I was told that because of the regulators, automatic shut offs, and such that it is a good idea because the propane runs through very fine parts and they can get clogged easily.
