Refilling 1lb propane tanks

As outdoorsman we seem to get upset about a gross overlimit of fish or illegally harvesting game, which obviously are illegal. Somehow its O.k. to illegally transport refilled 1# cylinders. We get all worked up about littering on the ice, lake, or in the woods, yet we don't think twice about throwing our cigarette butts out the window or big deal if some garbage flies out the back of the truck. We would go off the deep end if we heard of someone deliberately poluting a lake or land, But we think nothing of driving on the ice or in the woods with our vehicles leaking every fluid known to man. We don't bother getting that check engine light checked out even though the vehicles computer may have defaulted into an open loop strategie which can produce higher tailpipe emisissions. Everybody gets upset at the guy drivin the speed limit in the left lane yet knowbody complains about the people breakin the speed limit?

Somehow we have boiled down to a society that seems to think anything and everything is o.k. as long as you don't get caught.

Lets give advice that we have never had a problem refilling these. Now joe somebody thinks how hard can it be. He refills a half dozen of them and throws in the back of his suburban. Next morning he heads out to start his truck, hits the keyless entry to unlock the doors and boom, fishin trip cancelled. Joe somebody wasn't smart enough or didn't have the proper training or didn't read the directions. He had a couple leaking. he never thought about keeping them outside after filling them. He never thought about the keyless entry having a power lock solenoid that can spark.

There are to many things that can go wrong even with refillable tanks. Why take the chance in order to save $2

I have a great idea...if you want to refill them, go ahead with caution. If you don't want to refill them, please don't take the chance. I do refill them and use a scale and keep them in a vented area. Never had one leak, am I lucky...maybe. But I do take precautions and never use old tanks. BTW, the only tank that has leaked is a new one that I took off a heater after 1/2 was used. The savings is greater than $2.00, if you use as many as I do in a year.

OK guys...its gone on long enough.

Virtually every one of those 1pders are tagged with labels that states clearly "Do Not Refill". It gets no clearer than that and our stance here is Fun, Safety, and Legal in just about that order. We don't condone filling these things for saftey reasons and the legal implications are another thing. Whether you choose to ignore safety labels and warnings is up to you, but we do not want the merits by which you justify your actions that make what you are doing illegal discussed here.
