Hey guys looking for some input. I drive a 2x4 and I am looking in to getting some tire chains for it. I have never used them before and was wondering if any of you have in the past and how they worked for you. Thank you

used them on my chevy for years before i got my 4x4 i picked mine up at mills i did spend the extra bucks on the v cleet ice bite style those and a few extra pounds in the back and you are set. you do however just like a 4x4 have to pick your way thru deeper snow.

My Ford 2 wheel drive with chains on would out do alot of 4x4's when driving though swow drifts. I remember one year my fishouse was iced in on the lake I hooked the chains to my fishouse and then gave it a pull the house didn't move but the chains on the truck just started to dig holes in the Ice with hardly no power Wow !!!! Well after chopping out the fishouse I gave it another pull and it broke free. Truck Chain Work Very Well.

Last year on Red I got stuck and put tire chains on all 4. I have an older 4X4 with out locking hubs. Still had to jack up and put planks under the tires to get out. chains can work great but if you dig down with them you can get really hung up. After moving 20 feet we were on bare ice. I am glad I had them. If you have locking hubs or taction control on a 2 wheel it is as good as not on a 4X4.

I put tire chains on all 4 tires of my F150 4x4. It was heavy snow and warm temps and I made it across the lake. Couldn't believe how good it went threw heavy snow. Guys in big plow trucks couldn't even plow. The problem...tranny overheated and burnt my truck to a crisp. Couldn't put it out, one hell of a fire!!! Be careful if you smell your transmission and make sure you have a cooler. I bought a new Silverado and haven't had the need for chains since.

When installing tire chains make sure the cross chains hooks are facing out away from the tires. I have seen poeple put them on "inside out" before. Also be sure to fasten any left over tag ends. They can really slap around and possibly damage brake lines and stuff.

a friend of mine uses them when things look like we have to go cross country. He only puts them on the back 2 tires and we have never had a problem going anywhere when they are on. But they will dig into the ice quickly and like the previous post watch your tires and transmision...But they do work wonders!!!

I had an old chevy truck that would spin one tire all the time. After getting stuck and scaring the dump out of myself, I bought chains. I put them on before driving on the lake every time. I ran it that way for several years in the early 90's. Pain in the arse to get them on sometimes (ice and water), but they did the job.
